I am a bright eyed and greenhorned designer looking to make his first thorough blades hack. I have a solid groundwork with what I want but I am not sure where I can get the resources to make it look presentable. I often do my writing work through open office writer as I am a broke English teacher.

Does the group have any templates, fonts or layout editors for things like playbooks?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone use miniatures on the score map to show where everyone is? If so, do they recommend somewhere to get blades aligned minis? I currently use poker chips and dice but my players are asking.

What handouts, player aides, GM sheets, maps or otherwise do you use in your Blades games to make them easier, or more enjoyable. Particular focus on new games/new players.

Also any feedback on the ‘Heist Deck’ by Andrew Shields would also be appreciated.

Book recommendation: The Gutter Prayer, by Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan. It follows three thieves in an industrial fantasy city filled with weird stuff — living candles, ghoul tunnels, sentient worm colonies, all kinds of juicy things. Just came out and I am enjoying it immensely.

The first novel is out there for sale (except trying to fix a glitch so the ebook will work.) The second novel is going through editing and will be out in a couple short months. And I’m started on the third.

This first chapter takes a quick look into the heroic life of a young Inspector determined to bring a brutal crew of scoundrels to justice. How do you like his odds?

The wide-spread misconception that the Bluecoats work for the Inspectors is understandable. They are housed together, they both stop criminals, and they are both funded by the city. The most prominent trait they share is that they will brook no disrespect. If they cannot punish the insolent with the law, they will handle matters otherwise and hide behind the law.

Still, their difference is foundational and pervasive. In the end, the Bluecoats are charged with keeping the peace and protecting the wealthy. The Inspectors are charged with solving crimes and punishing law-breakers. Only a fool would confuse the two mandates.

After about a 2 month hiatus, my Blades group is finally going to resume next week! The Holiday Season always messes up my gaming schedule 🙁

I tend to struggle to engage the players after they’ve been away for so long. Does anyone have any hot tips for getting the action rolling? My first instinct is to just jump right back into it, but inevitably there’s gonna be dozens of questions about “what happened with this?” or “who’s that guy again?” or the worst one “why are we doing this?”

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
