Does anyone use miniatures on the score map to show where everyone is? If so, do they recommend somewhere to get blades aligned minis? I currently use poker chips and dice but my players are asking.

  1. We neither. We love to keep it as abstract as possible because all those cool flashbacks and ideas are working better if no-one can say “wait, that’s not working because there’s a wall/the building is not big enough/there’s no lightning wall to hack/etc.”

  2. I have historically been a very anti-minis kind of guy for most of my gaming, but recently have begun to see the value in using them in certain situations. While I don’t use them for Blades, I don’t see why they can’t be a useful tool when used correctly.

For custom minis, Hero Forge has a really decent interface and a wide range of options, and you can come away with a nicely customized figure for about $30, if you spring for the nicer material, which takes paint quite well. I’ve used it for characters in D&D and Savage Worlds.

  3. Our gaming group plays on roll20 but have moved away from tokens which has helped stay in the fiction.

Last night I rand band of blades and laid down some text stating two characters were defending the bridge while the other two were placing charges for its detonation. Whether text, tokens, or minis, I see the use for reminders to the table of what’s at play. I do not rely as much on them anymore to retain flexibility for the fiction to tells its story free of artificial constraints

  4. Thanks Benjamin Davis 😒 Stefan Struck we draw the map as things get established it doesn’t hinder flashbacks and gives players something to go by. Ben Morgan they asked I’m happy with tokens placed on the map as they materialise in the fiction – draw maps leave gaps

  5. Where to get minis depends on how much you want to spend on them. Reaper minis are a decent middle ground of quality/cost, and they have a pretty wide selection.

Wyrd’s Through the Breach miniatures are pretty close to the theme, and are reasonably customizable (the scale on the female set is a bit off, but probably not enough to matter).
