So anyone have any ideas for arcane crafting? I’m looking at the samples and they are cool. But not sure if they fit my character, who is from the dagger Isles (Whisper with strange methods) I was contemplating some sort of telekinesis based weapon that I could use with attune. But would appreciate any other suggestions, thanks.

What’s the load of a gadget for a non-Leech?

What’s the load of a gadget for a non-Leech?

What’s the load of a gadget for a non-Leech? I ask this because anyone can make a gadget, but only the Leech has a space on their playbook for them. And, more specifically, if they’re usually just 1 load anyhow, isn’t having a dedicated space for gadgets on the Leech’s playbook just a waste of a playbook specific item? I certainly seems that way to me, but there’s a very good chance I’m simply missing something. Any answers from any authorities on the matter would be great!

Maybe it’s that non-Leeches can only bring a single gadget, while a Leech can bring as many as their load allows? (“Gadgets” on the aforementioned playbook seem to work the same way as “Veteran” advances in that you’re not actually limited to just three.) Then again, that seems a bit arbitrary and/or counter intuitive, but who knows.

I’m trying to convince more folks to run Blades games in an upcoming con, and I find myself in need of quickstart I can legally handle to someone that want to give the game a try before deciding to buy it.

I mean, he rule reference is good, but it is too thin for someone to actually grap and run a game with.

How do you guys handle Leeches and alchemical creations?

How do you guys handle Leeches and alchemical creations? A lot of items in their bandolier options include tier 3 and 4 sunstances. Do you make the Leech roll for items in a flashback or do you just assume they’ve made the item already when they declare a bandolier?

The former doesn’t seem very fair to the player (or very fun) but the latter means they can paralyze people with a tier 4 substance just by using 3 load.

In happened upon me that my character died and I decided to transfer to the ghost playbook. But I’m a bit confused about for what I actually need the possess ability.

1) Do I need it to “indulge my vice” aka. feed on life essence?

2) Do I need it to possess a hull or hollow to change my playbook?

3) Do I need it to take control of a body in free play/?

4) Do I need it to take control of a body during a score?

I pretty much think it all boils down to yes, it just seems a bit odd to me so I was looking for confirmation.

Having just got my hands on the book, and giving it a readthrough, I had an idea for a character concept I wasn’t entirely sure how to make: A Criminal Lawyer. Think Saul from Breaking Bad, or the lawyer from the Wire. What would happen here? How would you all make this character, given how justice is handled in Duskwall? Would this make a better Expert or Contact, than a PC?

Running Blades on Roll20. I’d like to paint on colored territory on the city map while still leaving it translucent so that you can properly see said map. I’m pretty noobish on doing such things though and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on learning how to do this?

A hypothetical situation occurred to me regarding Devil’s Bargains.

Usually the main person affected by them is the person who gets the extra die. But occasionally they allow something to happen that affects other PCs.

Devil’s Bargains can’t be resisted usually.

But if another character wanted to resist the consequence from landing on them is that ok?

Or should those kinds of Devil’s Bargains not be made?

I have two questions about downtime activities:

I have two questions about downtime activities:

1. You get +1d for doing a downtime activity with the assistance of a contact or friend. But Recover, a downtime activity, requires the help of a contact or friend. It seems silly to get +1d on every Recover, and the example doesn’t seem to have one, but the overall downtime rules seem very clear on this.

2. Likewise, you can spend 1 coin to turn a 1-3 into a 4/5 or a 4/5 into a 6 or a 6 into a critical. This works for most of the downtime activities…but what about Indulge Vice? It isn’t divided into tiers of success. If I roll a 1 on Indulge Vice and spend a coin, what do I get? Does it become a 2? Maybe a 4? Perhaps a 5?
