Hull “Plating” feature

One of my players chose to play a Hull, and he chose “Plating” as one of its features.

Here it is what the rulebook says about it:

– – –

Plating: Thick metal armor plates.

– – –

and nothing more. On the other hand, the Hull character sheet give some more information, in the “Frame & Items” section:

– – –

Plating (special armor)

– – –

Though, I’m still confused. How the Hull “Plating” feature should work, I mean, mechanically speaking?

  1. Gives you better Position when in a situation where you could be injured. Skirmishing with a guy carrying a knife might be Controlled instead of Risky. Maybe worse Position where the weight or rigidity could hinder you.

  2. Until now, we assumed it simply was an extra slot (an extra special armor slot, actually) but, unless as for any other special armor special skill, you can’t choose to push yourself for an alternative effect.
