Reading through the v8 changes, it looks like friends and contacts no longer give bonuses for downtime actions? John Harper any chance you can elaborate on this change? In the sessions I’ve played, it was one of the strongest drivers for developing those NPCs as more fleshed out characters.

Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried to look but couldn’t find anything easily. Nothing in the FAQ.

I am about to start GMing for blades.

My group has decided to be a crew of Breakers. They want to basically to do the thug thing and take over their own piece of doskvol. This will likely have a large amount of direct conflict.

Sooooo: I remember John saying in a blades episode that combat is a little wishy-washy in blades in the dark and that you can kind of come up with anything.

I was just curious if anyone had created a guide on this aspect of BitD at all. The important part to me is how to assign a clock or other measurable to a combat. What size clock = what size opposition.

The funny thing is, I think it is easy to do the really bizarre things in BitD (ie. this demon has an 10 clock, all hits have no or limited effect, etc.).

It seems a little harder to assign a similar scenario to a standard fight. For example, I think the first possible fight will be against the owners of a drug den (and guards). I would say 8 people – tier 1. I will start a clock for the enemy of “getting reinforcements” to put some pressure on (4 segment).

So breaking it down to a simplified system – should I say 8 segments requires 4x standard effect – this seems ok – 1 segment represents an enemy person.

I want to make sure it seems difficult and draws out a few devils bargains or resist rolls. Once I have a few fights finished I can judge to make it easier/harder.

How has everyone else achieved this?

Fellow GMs… how much planning do you put into scores?

Fellow GMs… how much planning do you put into scores?

I played my first session on Roll20 tonight with a new group. I had only the basics planned. I used the random tables to generate a few locations, score types, people etc.

I come from D&D where tons of planning was generally needed before a game, so I flounder a bit when I have so little to work with. Luckily the players comments and thoughts gave me a few ideas and we winged it from there.

I feel I need a little more than just the basics, but also need to actively stop myself from overplanning…

Can you take Veteran as your first Special Ability? I ask because I think that having a Cutter with the Physicker ability would allow for a fun character concept and it would be odd to not be able to play a surgeon but not be able to do legitimate surgery for first couple sessions.

Hey Guys

Hey Guys

Hey Guys,

My GM is currently running 2 games of Blades, and I play as Kronos the Spider in one of them. Soon i expect to join the second campaign with a new character. Kronos recently was asked by his girlfriend Salia to look after her best friend Alia during a dangerous mission she was on, and I plan to make my new character in that crew one of our elite rooks sent in to infiltrate by Kronos in order to keep an eye on Alia and also to feed back any information of worth to Kronos.

I don’t particularly want to play a Slide, but how do I incorporate the “rook” aspect into other classes? I know rooks are meant to be socialites, and he will definitely have social skills, but I’d rather have a different base to work off with points put into social skills.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Rules questions for you guys. On some of the Let’s Plays that I’ve seen, it seems like sometimes you can actually bump yourself up to the next tier of rolls, like getting a 4-5 instead of a 1-3, or making a 6 into a crit. Would anyone mind clarifying for me how this is done please, or if it was part of a previous version of the rule set or something?
