Hey again everyone!

Hey again everyone!

Hey again everyone! I’ve had enough time to recover from GenCon and put a bit of work in on my Trek hack some more. The majority of the comments so far have been in relation to the action list. So, while I have been working on a lot of stuff, I’m going to post my revisions of the action list (with brief descriptions) with the revisions to the abilities as well:

– Vigilance (formerly Prowess)

FIGHT: with an opponent. Assault or defend a position.Engage in hand-to-hand, ranged, and ship based combat.

OPERATE: systems, vessels, or programs. Helm a starship, plot a course, run heavy machinery or transporters.

SURVEY: a subject, object, situation, or location and make inferences. Quickly ascertain or judge places or things. Scan objects, vessels, planets, or phenomena with sensors.

STRIVE: to physically overcome a challenge. Lift, run, climb, jump, swim, sneak, or tough something out.

– Ingenuity (formerly Intellect)

STUDY: a subject with precise and detailed investigation. Conduct an experiment. Research a topic. The process of academic or scientific inquiry.

TREAT: wounds, ailments, or sickness. Reverse the effects of harm. Care for patients.

ENHANCE (formerly Fix): a device, system, or structure. Add new capabilities. Jury-rig.Use or repair technology in a way it wasn’t intended.

FABRICATE (formerly Build): new systems, devices, or structures. Engineer, maintain, or fix them according to their original purpose.

– Charisma (unchanged)

COMMAND: rapid obedience with your force of personality or rank. Intimidate or threaten. Build up or commend. Lead an action with a team.

NEGOTIATE: with friends, colleagues, or adversaries. Parley, broker, or mediate an agreement between parties. Work out a deal on behalf of yourself or another.

FRATERNIZE: with colleagues, friends or adversaries. Socially engage with those around you either for recreation or to gain access to resources, information, people or places.

DISCERN: the intentions, emotional state, or truthfulness of another person, group, or entity.

The biggest changes are Fix to Enhance and Build to Fabricate. I feel that this change helps to maintain the depth of engineering actions while differentiating the two a bit more. The other change is the Intellect to Ingenuity and Prowess to Vigilance. Part of this is just more evocative words for the setting and part of it is trying to fit the actions to the ability a bit more.

I have some other big changes incoming as well, but I’ll post them once they are a bit more settled on. As always, thanks for the feedback!!

As always, thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Alright, this is a bit of a big file, but I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my Star Trek Hack since my last post.

Alright, this is a bit of a big file, but I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my Star Trek Hack since my last post. This pdf contains character and crew creation, plus example characters and ship. Character creation is currently limited to the main shipboard roles (later I may add playbooks for Klingons, Androids, etc.). There are still some issues (not all playbooks have a complete list of abilities, I haven’t settled on length of trauma clock, and items aren’t totally sorted out), but I feel like this is a solid alpha entry. Also, I’ve settled on a working title of Where No One has Gone. Any and all constructive feedback is welcomed.

Last, I’m going to be at Gen Con this week. If anyone would be interested in joining for a one shot playtest, let me know! Or if anyone just wants to say hi to a fellow Blades fan/hacker.

Help!

Help!

Help!! I have a game design problem. As I’ve posted here before I’m currently working on a Star Trek hack of BitD. I have most everything roughly figured out with one mahout exception. Tier, Rep, and Turf. I’m just really struggling with a way to thematically work these mechanics into the Star Trek universe. I’ve thought about just cutting them entirely, but then I feel like in losing a lot of what makes Blades great, as well as I have to get rid of Quality upgrades to the Crews. I’m just really struggling with figuring this out, and would appreciate any ideas you may have.

So I’ve been working on a Star Trek hack of Blades and have even started playtesting it with one of my regular groups. It has been working pretty well so far with the barebone rules I have. I have a decent amount done for it, but I’m only going to post the Action list until I get things more organized. I’m super nervous about this, since its my first hacking I’ve ever brought outside of my close friends, but I want to share this with others and see what they do with it.

One major difference I want to point out is that the plans are secretly voted on at the end of each session, and then the GM chooses from among the highest voted plans to build episodic missions. I took a little of that mission building style from Monster of the Week. Now without further rambling, here are the Actions:

Awareness

-Fight: You engage in combat with an enemy.

-Strategize: You asses situations in order to gain a tactical advantage.

-Operate: You run systems, vessels, or programs.

-Treat: You heal another’s wounds, ailments, or sickness.

Intellect

-Study: You make a precise and detailed investigation (more scientific).

-Survey: You observe a situation or location and make inferences (more intuition).

-Fix: You repair or maintain and existing device, system, or structure.

-Build: You construct a new device, system, or structure.

Charisma

-Command: You order rapid obedience.

-Negotiate: You parley, broker, or mediate an agreement between parties.

-Fraternize: You socially engage with collegues, friends, or adversaries.

-Play: You engage in play, games, or activities with yourself, friends, or adversaries.

I hope you enjoy, and feel free to leave constructive feedback!!
