Engagement Rolls for Regional Position

Engagement Rolls for Regional Position

Engagement Rolls for Regional Position

So Iā€™m working on a hack that, among other things, allows for regional travel.

The players in this hack are a hired company seeking out various things and I had the thought that it would be interesting and appropriate for them to have their tier not be static but rather go up and down based on their standing in the current region and their preparation for journeys from region to region. (This is an age of sail setting).

Players would roll an engagement roll for traveling to the new region and could get a result of 1:Desperate to 4:Controlled. After that they could go on expeditions (scores) to upgrade their position in the region.

What sort of special questions would you ask for such an engagement roll, imagining a large company or crew were getting ready to make a long journey to a new regional base of operations, etc

I know the game is still quite new and spellcasters are not a feature of the default setting, but has anyone given some thought to reskinning Blades in the Dark’s Whipser playbook for Band of Blades?

I ask because I have one player in my group for whom a fantasy game without a spellcaster is likely to be a non-starter and I really would like him to be in on our Band of Blades game.

I just wanted to publicly announce I am working on a hack for the Blades system called “Neon Nights” It is going to be a Cyberpunk take on Running the Shadows so to speak.

I am working on playbooks at the moment and am thinking the main theme and feel of the game. šŸ™‚

WILD BAND OF BLADES LORE SPECULATION

WILD BAND OF BLADES LORE SPECULATION

WILD BAND OF BLADES LORE SPECULATION

Band of blades, page 30: “the cinder king appears: The Cinder King gains a nine-pointed crown of True Fire and emerges in the west. He uses

powerful sorceries to slay a city and build his first army.

page 38: “At the center of Dar is a basalt throne, which once had a ten pointed crown of True Fire flooating above it.”

I have a strange feeling this is not a typo 0_O

maybe he is the tenth point of his crown?

or got Chosen by it?

is there any connection to the “unheard-of nine Chosen” that rose to oppose him?

or maybe there is some connection to the living god?

there is something fishy with the number nine in this setting.from Render’s handout – “The Living God of the Zemyati ages ago created nine Chosen, and unlike the Chosen of other gods they’ve never burnt out or faded, only dying when called to their task.” maybe the cinder king is the tenth chosen of the living god?

from Zora’s handout:”Zora, however, did not end. She broke Dar long ago, and ended the Godwar using some terrifying magic”. so, maybe the Cinder king is a Darian, chosen by the living god and fucking hate him now because of the whole cataclysm thing?

if the campaign we have in YouTube is a sort of Word of God source, the Cinder King have something personal against some forest. but it was the cursed forest of the weird forest folks, not the Zemyati’s place with the weird-ancestral-blood-ritual-trees, so maybe it’s a point against the living god chosen theory. maybe he just hate trees.

anyway, feel free to post wild speculation šŸ™‚

Does anyone remember the Midnight RPG from Fantasy Flight Games?

Does anyone remember the Midnight RPG from Fantasy Flight Games? It was early in the D&D 3e days, a very cool spin on traditional fantasy. I think it would make a good hack for BitD, hoping someone else has already thought of it…! šŸ™‚

Thinking ahead to a Blades game I plan to run, I grabbed a bunch of the most characterful daguerrotypes I could find, put them together as cards, and slapped a space on them to write a name. Feel free to use them for your NPCs, and if you point me at more cool pictures I’ll happily add them. šŸ™‚

I’ve been digging Babylon Berlin lately and think it would make an awesome setting for Blades. Great soundtrack, evocative time period, and a ready-made set of factions between Moka Efti, the Trotskyists, the vice squad, etc. Anyone else exploring late 1920’s Berlin as a Blades setting?
