Crew creation: Establish your hunting grounds

The rulebook, on page 93, says:

– – –

Your crew is brand-new, but you have chosen some small part of a district as your hunting grounds. This is the area that you usually target for your scores, and you know it well. The area is small, only three or four city blocks […].

– – –

What do you mean with “block(s)”? How do you usually choose your hunting grounds on the Doskvol map?

I’m trying to understand how big should the hunting grounds be and how you should define them on the map.

Thanks in advance. 😉

What is the max party size to run a BitD game?

I regularly DM a D&D 5e game and I really want to introduce my group to BitD.

Problem is each week between 5 – 6 people show up.

I noted the manual indicated to run games of 2 – 4 players, which ofcourse sucks because I dont want to exclude people.

The issue is I have a family and I cant do multiple sessions a week.

Is it advisable/possible to exceed that?

What advice would you provide for a GM like myself who wants to introduce his players to this game but has a larger group that he runs?

Two areas where I find myself struggling for ideas as a GM in the heat of a fast-paced game:

1) Aside from physical injury (blades, bullets, falls, burns) and spiritual horror (seeing a ghost, almost being possessed), what are some types of harm that have been inflicted on crooks in your games?

2) Give me your favorite bits of ambient weirdness, either as complications or as background. I can make the setting steampunk-ish and exotic and complex with little difficulty, but I keep forgetting this is a world literally full of ghosts. What are some interesting details you’ve dropped in to Bring Doskvol to Life?

re: Replacing Cohorts, p.97

Is the reason why replacing one costs coin equal to Tier +2 (rather than say.. coin equal to Tier, or Tier +1) because they are about on par with other assets of the critical effect level quality? Is the rule about two downtime activities there to backburner the process? ie: the long-term project that would normally arise for permanent acquisition of a thing

Ok, so I have a quandry.

Ok, so I have a quandry. I’m running a brief (probably won’t go past 5-6 months weekly) investigative campaign for a group of 5 who refuse to come up with a name for their gang. The issue is, I want them to be able to reach the full potential of their characters in that span of time as we’re unlikely to do a sequel with the same characters. The current advancement system feels pretty slow, so I may want to speed it up a little bit so they can get to all the things they want their characters to get to. That said, I don’t have enough experience to be sure that by offering a little extra xp per session I won’t make them impossibly OP by the end, thus spoiling the excitement or forcing me to power creep really hard. For people who have run full campaigns before, should I speed up advancement at all, and if so how much?

For reference, they have finished 4 sessions and are only just now starting to acquire new playbook abilities

I’m considering trying to DM a group of friends and there’s a concept that I haven’t found any rules for. How would player possession work? The way I’m imagining it is as a death state in the sense of ghost attacks cause harm like “weakened will” or something in the same vein and once it hits a fatal level the PC would “die”. On the topic of ghosts, PC ghosts can’t possess at the start therefore they can’t satisfy their need, correct? By that logic they cannot reduce drain till after their first advancement right?

Drift Oil is not a common recipe listed under Sample Creations on page 226, but rather on the Sample Special Formulas page on 227. It’s the only Leech Bandolier item like this. Oversight? Something special? Doesn’t matter?

I’ve been watching the Bloodletters, and I’ve noticed that sometimes people are getting bonus dice for having friends or contacts (not cohorts) assist with certain things, usually downtime actions. I can’t find anywhere mentioning this in the rulebook. Did I miss something in the rules? Is this just something from a previous version? Can I get some kind of clarification?

What can a Whisper do?

I’m about to start in a new game of Blades and I’m going to be playing a Whisper. My questions is, what kind of arcane things can a Whisper do outside of their talent? I’m planning on taking Ritual, which gives me 1 ritual that takes time to set up and I don’t want to end up a one trick pony. So what is in my wheelhouse as a Whisper outside my talent?
