Quick question(s): During downtime, does it cost an activity for one PC to accompany another on an activity? Does a PC need to spend a downtime action to engage in teamwork, like assist and set up actions?

Thanks in advance.

Second-Generation Blades:

My 15 year old son already showed interest in playing Blades when I told him about my favorite game. He even started a RPG group with friends from school. They started classic-old-school (TM) with D&D and Call of Cthulhu and now they will start their first Blades campaign.

This against all this PS4 gaming, Minecraft, LoL, etc. stuff. Ain’t that cool or what? 🙂

Oh Hai, while I’ve been working on my own project, my group has finally come around on Fraser Simons “Hack the Planet!”

We’re going to try out a few sessions as a Shifter crew. I’m pretty psyched, I’ve been super-curious about this one for awhile!

Right now I think we’ll steal heavily from “Heavy Weather,” making them a 3R

(Recon, Rescue & Repair) advance team out of Shelter One, scouting out the storm and drought shattered remains of Texas. They’ll contend with more piratical corps, hereditary warlords, ie. “the fifth sheriff of Sulphur Springs” and survivalists cults built out of megachurches. Also nomadic solarpunks who’ve set up shop in an old solar balloon field.

I expect to get a lot of use out of the Storm Troupe ability, as their going to be working a small fleet of smart cars, ATV’s that can drive over any terrain and jump over obstacles.

It’s going to be positive, which may feel weird in cyberpunk, but being positive seems pretty punk these days.

Here’s a page out of my sketchbook as I take my notes!

Oh, it was the Ebon Wings, in the Runwater Flats, in the east wilderness of Crow’s Foot before the fires cleared ‘em out. They were these tough leg-breakers, a gang working for the Crows, but they were all into that freaky Forgotten Gods worship and they were drinking from some spirit well down in the filth.

They fought ghosts, and ghosts rode them, and they threw ghosts like weapons; it was a crazy pack, generally hopped up on drugs and plasmics, and the Crows used them for terror tactics. The boss was Bloodletta, this crimson-haired fury. Back in the day, the word was she could “scream ghosts,” whatever that means.

Her kid grew up practically living in the spirit well, and her nannies were freaky cultists. Before she could talk she was drawing Hadrathi symbols on people with charcoal, and she was tattooing everybody who would hold still by the time she was ten, and by the time puberty hit she was a force of nature on both sides of the Mirror. So Bloodletta’s kid was called Inkletta, a joke that stuck. Far as I know she’s the last of the Ebon Wings, and that’s just because she got out before they crossed the Ferals and perished.

Also, an incredibly low-priority question: have the U’Duasha edited playbooks (NOT the lovely Iruvian playbooks, which I adore) shown up anywhere? With the Iruvian names and contacts.

Might be looking at an U’Duasha game soon and would love to have it.

My mind has been on zombies and soldiers all week, so, tonight, I posted a spoiler-free summary review of Off Guard Games’ inspired Forged in the Dark game, Band of Blades (or, more specifically, the Digital Early Release Edition).

The first bit of the review discusses the Blades in the Dark game mechanics, in general, and the actual Band of Blades review starts at 26:00.

I really cannot wait to get this sucker to the table.

Hi I am playing the Wisperer and I just want to know what are rituals. What they do. How do I learn them.

Dice – Some cool D6s, yes, but I also keep one fate die on hand as my “I haven’t thought about that in a while, what’s happened there?” die. Quick roll can tell me if things have gotten better or worse, possible advance or withdraw a clock.

Pens & Pencils – Most normal stuff – Sharpies are my go-to here, but I want to call out one thing. That yellow handled thing is a lead holder – it’s kind of like a mechanical pencil, except the lead is a quarter inch across. When I remember, it’s what I like ot use to fill in clocks because it works almost as well as a sharpie, but it can be erased.

Index Cards – These are the heart and soul of my game. Every element int he game (PC, NPC, Faction, Clock, Whatever else) has a card where i can capture notes and i can shuffle them up for inspiration Some of them are nicely curated (like Uncle Callum’s card) but honestly, most of them are just a line or two, hastily scrawled. If I can, I spread these out in front of me when I run.

Card Stands – These are the little plastic bits you get in boardgames that you insert a paper character into to make a pawn. I keep them on hand to stand up index cards that have information relevant to the table for high visibility. They’re also good for character names,

Photo Printer – Mine is an HP Sprocket, and it prints out 2″x3″ photo stickers from my phone. This is exactly the right size to put on an index card (as I did with Callum). The photos are about 50 cents a pop, so I’m a little conservative with it, but it can reallly be great for NPCs). Full credit o my friends Will (who first showed me these) and Eric Thornber (from whom I stole the idea of putting them on Index cards)

IPad – This is my map and my quick ref rulebook. While not strictly necessary, I gotta admit it comes in handy a lot, especially because it’s big enough that I can hold it up to show the table a relevant piece of data.

I sometimes add in dry erase material, but that’s less consistent, since I haven’t really found a way to use it that I like more than index cards. And things like Post Its (and, god forbid, the actual book) make it into the rotation too, but that’s the stuff I make sure is in my box for running Blades.
