Time for people to start looking for a different place to host all of these gaming-related communities that currently live on Google+.

  1. thanks Wil Hutton I for one am really going to miss the RPG communities. I still find myself referring back to stuff posted years ago that’s still relevant. I wonder if some other developer will come up with a way of moving an entire community and its content.

  2. I’ve posted a LOT of stuff on this community. I suspect it will be gone. Documents will persist, but all the rambling comments I’ve done here? Beyond reach.

  3. Brandon Perkins It’s a haven for extreme right wing and other alt-right groups. But more than that, there’s no way to keep “boosted” posts out of your feed without buying it generating cryptocurrency to “upgrade”.

  4. Jasmine Barlow Unfortunately, I think finding something that matches G+ precisely will be impossible. I mean, if there was a better platform, we would already be on it…

  5. Reddit already has a semi active community if you need a new home there πŸ™‚ I’m gonna miss this G+ forum though and The occasional direct comment from Harper himself

Google have made it clear that they will provide instructions on how to export content from G+. Hopefully that means any community member can export content from the community.

The export functionality may already exist. I know it does for many Google products.

  7. The Blades subreddit is pretty good! It currently has only about 1/4 of the users the G+ community. I also just created a MeWe account since Fate, MotW, etc. are jumping over there. Definitely going to miss this group!

  8. The Blades subreddit feels like the right solution to me. It has about 10% of the users we have here, but that’s a lot better than starting from zero. It’s reasonably lively and helpful: 10 posts in the last week, with anywhere from 3 to 36 comments.

The trick to Reddit is realizing that you don’t need to participate in Reddit as a site. You can narrow focus on the subreddits you care about and ignore the rest. It doesn’t look much like G+ but the functionality — posts and comments and communities — matches pretty well. You don’t have the personal feed, which is a loss, but for a community it works fine.
