Seeking playtesters

I’m working on a forged in the dark game with a view to eventual publication.

“SPQR: Death of the Republic” will be set in ancient Rome in the years before the rise of Julius Ceasar

There will be playbooks for lower, middle and upper class PCs and crew sheets to represent the various factions within the city at that time. the group will decide on what level of society they want to play and that will dictate the kind of game that you have whether it be a high political drama or gangs of murderers in the streets.

is that sounds interesting to you then reply to me here and when the playtest document is ready I will send it out to you.

  1. Sounds like an ideal setting for Blades. I recall a couple of the subplots in HBO’s Rome series dealt overtly with the criminal world, and how those activities fit into the patron/client system in Rome. Would enjoy playtesting and giving feedback!

  2. my idea for character generation (inspired by the beyond the wall RPG) will have players decide the type of game they want (eg collegium level, military or political) then taking a playbook packet for that type of game

They will then roll on a series of tables that will give them snippets of backstory, connections to other PCs, their stats, connections to NPCs and more

Ideally character generation will be fast and produce well-rounded characters who feel immersed in the setting and ready to start play

  3. Ideally I’ll produce supplements so as to add to the setting such as a guide to playing in the year of the four emperor’s, playing British tribesmen in the time of Boudica and a version of Rome with magic and the gods personally involved

  4. I’m going to be running the first playtest session next week and I will post a full report here

    Will be testing

    Randomised character generation

    Patron system

    Sundials

    Fortuna rolls
