A NOCTURNE — progress update

I’ve finished the Cluster Creation document, which should be linked below! I’ve also added it to the game’s itch.io page: https://thysane.itch.io/a-nocturne-play-test

It includes a methodology for mapping clusters, tables for generating random systems, and some notes on how to link clusters together. Also included is a blank system worksheet, a blank gridded isometric map for mapping clusters, and a new sample cluster – The Ram’s Horn, which was generated using the new tables.

Next up, I’m going to be play-testing the ever-living hell out of this hack with my home group. If you’d like to play-test A NOCTURNE with your own group, feel free to go ahead, and make sure to message me with your feedback! Also, I tend to check back here every few days (‘cos the Blades G+ is legit), so if you have any questions feel free to tag or message me.

Now, I’m going to try and somehow block out some time for a second game night….

  1. One suggestion: the Cluster creation work sheet should have a third line of co-ordinates (Roman numerals maybe) going up the right side, to denote elevation. The creation rules already ask that you determine elevation, so it seems useful to have a coordinate for it.

  2. Lex Permann For the most part, yeah, I’d say refinements and small additions from here on (startings situations etc.), with the caveat of “unless this play-test throws up anything glaring”

  3. I’m curious, having read more of the quick start, if you find the rules for taking time and Compromised dice step on the toes of the push and Devil’s bargain rules. I like the stuff you’ve added, but that seems like a lot of considerations to waffle over before rolling the dice. It seems like you could probably excise or at least dial back the original push and DB rules in favour of your own.

  4. Thomas Berton These rules are definitely at the top of my list for checking how they do in the play-test. Want to see how it plays before I go cutting/adjusting.

  5. Ben George I just had yet another “slaps forehead” moment, realising there’s something else I forgot to add to the list of inspirations (which is now about as long as my arm).
