SETUP ACTIONS FOR SAME CHARACTER?

SETUP ACTIONS FOR SAME CHARACTER?

SETUP ACTIONS FOR SAME CHARACTER?

Have a thought about Setup Actions – could a character setup their own action? Like using Prowl to parkour up to a ledge (setup for position), where Finesse might end the life of a clueless guard quietly and quickly (action).

Something like that?

  1. Absolutely. Setup actions change the fictional positioning, so anything that accomplishes that, even by the same character, is game.

    That said remember to:

    Share the spotlight.

Consider how dangerous the setup action should be (it might not be worth it).

Consider how much time it takes.

Consider whether it would be better situated as a Devil’s Bargain or a push. (Just doing MORE of the thing, doing the thing HARDER, or accepting a consequence/expending a resource like expending ammunition).

  2. A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being.

  3. Justin Ford Yeah, I read the same thing (you can use a setup action to help any member of the team), just wanted to make sure that made mechanical sense beyond my own head space.

I still agree, sharing the spotlight is better, but in this particular situation, that was not how it was going to play out.

  4. It’s also pretty key to how certain characters might contribute to an encounter they might not otherwise be equipped to handle. Maybe the leach sucks at fighting but has a flashback where they set themselves up with a tinker role to temporarily augment a weapon or set a trap!

  5. Also, in some cases it just makes perfect sense that the same character makes a setup action for their own action – especially if Harmed or when they have reduced effect due to the fact that they may need an increased effect.

F.eks. An assassin why use Study on their armored opponent to increase effect on their next attack.
