So what kind of rituals has your crew discovered or researched? I’m running a one-shot at characters with premade characters and I could use the inspiration.

  1. One of my players made a ritual to temporarily blanket an area in thick black smog that makes people unable to recognize each other (only while they’re in the smog). He achieved this by making a contract with a kind of demon called a psychopomp, basically giant soul-eating sky jellyfish that normally use that smog to disguise themselves as thunderclouds. To prepare the ritual, he needs to draw a picture of the area he wants besmogged, and then when he wants the besmogging to start he burns the picture to signal the psychopomp.

He hasn’t actually used this ritual yet, but he was very excited about coming up with it.

  2. While more sparkcraft and less of a ritual, our Leech made a sort of “reverse spectral imaging device.” Basically, it’s a ghost camera that can be placed in the ghost field to record surveillance of the “normal” world for a bit. It is made of a rare and dead void sea fish with chromatic photoreceptors (kind of like a cuttlefish). A bound spirit recalls scenes by manipulating the fish’s natural camouflage, creating a fuzzy and very saturated recreation of what was recorded. Occasionally it needs to be rubbed with demon blood. Audio is piped back through a sparkcraft Victrola, and the whole thing sits in a medium-sized box. Pretty handy for a crew of spies and shadows. So far they’ve used it to record a secret meeting between the Iruvian Consulate and the Dockers’s magistrate on-the-take, exposing a vast conspiracy that resulted in the Consulate closing and 3 ticks on the “Imperial Military finds Pretense for Declaring War Against Iruvia” clock. Oh, and naturally the device is invisible once placed in the ghost field (though there is always risk of Whispers spotting it). The crew also took Ghost Echoes so they can see structures in the ghost field to attach it to. 🙂

  3. Havent had a chance to try it out, but my artist leech has one for painting prophetic portraits that show the subject days or weeks later. Requiring something of the subject or their presence. Painted in demon blood (with the item disolved in it, if applicable) of course.
