  1. Mark Cleveland Massengale Maybe if you think you are a badass crew and super confidant in your abilities to repel any invaders/troublemakers? Maybe you want your lair to be on display for all to see as a show of stature. Or if your players just wanted to be messed with more easily.

Basically, there’s no reason from a strategic view.

  2. I would assume the only mechanical changes would be that other factions wouldn’t have to complete a “find their lair” clock to attack it. Fictionally, I imagine the crew is viewed as either confidant or foolish, which might change the way other factions interact with them.

  3. We’re playing Bravos, specialising in subterfuge, and with a ruthless reputation. So we basically advertise where we are and accept all challengers.

  4. And for me all the gangs in crow foot have all a well known HQ. When your goal is to hold the street, and be a crime lord everybody has to know where your “castle” is… Another reason to have a not hidden HQ : the majority of criminal are like entrepreneur…. so to sell drug or anything illegal the location of your shop has to be known by your customers. In fact a hidden HQ is quite rare in the criminal world, except in RPG 🙂 Does Don Corleone hide in a secret lair ? No is officialy a well known and respected citizen…

  5. The crew of smugglers I’m running with doesn’t have the Hidden upgrade. I don’t think there was any stated reason for not getting it yet, but it’s made finding new or prospective employers easier than I’ve seen otherwise. Of course, it also helps that one of my character’s stated goals is that we try to keep most factions on good terms — explicitly so that they don’t come knocking roughly on our door.

  6. Both crews I GM for have a hidden lair. I’m pretty sure this is a reaction to the 5E game we’re in where our HQ was attacked by devils and burned down in the same session we bought it. And our DM wonders why we have no interest in putting down roots anymore.
