I have noticed the Mire seems to be missing in Dunslough. The book describes the Mire (page 270 Landmark 4) as a massive mud-quarry pit, the site of the impact of an ancient celestial body, wedged between Dunslough labour camp and ghetto. But on Ryan’s map, that block looks the same as the rest of Dunslough’s surroundings, basically eeleries and other farms.

  1. “Appleby, there’s no ‘Mire’ on any maps of Dunslough I’ve seen.”

    “Yes, Minister.”

“Was there one word of truth in what that ‘unionist’ said?”

“Minister, do you really want me to answer that question?”

    “Hmm. No, I don’t think I do.”

“Quite so. Perhaps there are some things it is better for a Minister not to know?”
