Greetings, all.

Greetings, all.

Greetings, all.

I wanted to share with you my last RPG project, FLESHSCAPE. It is by no means a Blades hack (that’s why I posted in Consort), but I’ve been working on it for a while and its final iteration is very much informed by John Harper’s Ghost Lines, which really made me put extra effort in the layout and art. I’ve always firmly believed in communication through graphic, and John’s work has been a great inspiration. If you are reading, John, THANK YOU!

You will probably recognize the concept of resistance rolls (they work in a different way but fill a similar role), and many elements akin with PbtA games.

The setting draws from Berserk, Monster Hunter, and from nightmares! 😀

The product is Pay What You Want, so you can grab it for free if you are interested. I appreciate any feedback and constructive criticism!

  1. it’s really cool. the layout is great, the mechanics looks fast and simple, and the world is grotesque. you think you can give some non-combat challenge examples, with the same template of your monsters? (Saltstorm; challenge 4, length 10, distraction 1, instinct: snatch away everything that isn’t anchored to the ground, blind and divide)

  2. Roe Portal it becomes much easier once you realize that the world and its phenomena are probably guided by some sort of intelligence (albeit otherworldly and twisted). The last page has some random tables for encounters and locations, but I decided to provide stats for some creatures because I felt I had to establish a mood, a “monster 101”. It appears humans were the only ones who survived the “change” without becoming some weird hybrid. Why this is can be the very focus of the campaign 🙂

  3. Anthony Costa I’m not one of those who bother too much about licenses. I care about the setting much more than the mechanics. If you want to use the equipment abstraction, for example, go for it. Just quote Fleshscape as inspiration and you’re good. It’s not like I’m going to sue you 😀 … I’ve always firmly believed that game designers build on top of other people’s work, stealing what is functional to their current project. And that’s pretty normal.

  4. Brandon Perkins I had no prior knowledge of Hand, Head, Heart, Hobgoblin 🙂 main inspirations were Blades, Monster Hunter, Berserk, and the artwork from Guy Davis and Francesco Biagini!
