Blood Red Blossoms is finally complete, and here are some family pics + setting intro and the inside of the character sheet ✨⛩✨

Game’s currently up for my patrons only, but will also be made accessible for purchase on DriveThruRPG in the future 😉

It’s been quite the ride to get this one out for the world to play!

Here’s a new update concerning my latest Blades -inspired game, Blood Red Blossoms. We’re steadily approaching a fully playable version of the game; it will initially be released through my Patreon, and made available on DriveThruRPG at a later time. However, I wanted you to catch a glimpse of the character sheets. They are supposed to be folded like a brochure 🙂

In case you want to know more, feel free to ask!

EDIT: if you want, you can already download the .pdf file for this character sheet here -> www.patreon.com/posts/blood-red-sheet-19315200

Heya!

Heya!

Heya! It’s been a while since I posted any updates concerning my Blood Red Blossoms project. Truth is, the game has changed a lot within the past months and I’ve worked on literally dozens of projects. However, I wanted to share some shots of the current BRB character sheet, now a brochure-like foldable paper with plenty of game information, including a rules summary and the character creation process.

Many things have changed, to the point I’d say this is only halfway forged in the dark – but the core theme is still the same and the design’s roots are still clearly visible 🙂 It will no longer be set in a pseudo-Japanese setting, instead taking place during the Sengoku era but with a few uchronic elements.

Blood Red Blossoms’ development is mainly happening on my patreon (roosterema), but once finished the game will be released for everyone else as well (though patrons will get it at no additional cost, obviously).

If you have questions, please feel free to ask!

Hello again!

Hello again!

Hello again!

Development of my Blood Red Blossoms project will take quite a while (doing a fantasy horror Japan game without making it look like some weird fetishist katana-party is harder than it looks :P), but I wanted to get this into your hands a.s.a.p. so that you can try it if you want.

There’s barely a setting in here, because it’s a huge work in progress, but the rules are pretty much complete. It requires familiarity with the core Blades rules, obviously.

As usual, tell me what you think (and if you have questions on the setting. design choices or artwork/layout, feel free to ask them). Looking forward to having a friendly chat with you people!

Love ya all!

Some time ago I wrote a post here about a possible Japan-themed hack.

Some time ago I wrote a post here about a possible Japan-themed hack. Things have changed quite a bit (and are still changing, to be honest!) but I figured you might be interested in how the character sheet is shaping up!

The game is going into a totally new direction: it retains Blades’ position/effect and harm systems, but introduces Ki, traits (which can blossom into mastered traits or wither away and be permanently lost) and is overall a much simpler game. The focus is on a group of travelers belonging to the Red Hats, who wander the rural areas of a horrific alternate Japan.

Think Dogs in the Vineyard meets NI-OH meets Call of Cthulhu meets Kwaidan.

Current title: Kurenai no Sakura (Crimson Cherry Blossoms)

So.

So.

So… with the release of the SRD and the possibility to properly hack Blades, I have two project ideas buzzing around my head. What I am asking YOU people is to tell me which of these you would find more interesting / valuable, and why 🙂

1. Whispers in the Dark (totally temporary name)

Arkham, Massachusetts, 1920s. You play worshippers and cultists of the Great Old Ones (because of faith, greed, thirst for knowledge or desperate need).

Will you achieve your goals, or relinquish your humanity and become One with the Master?

Crews replaced by the Great Old One you serve/worship/call upon.

Playbooks: Hatchet (brute), Book (celebrant), Hook (mastermind), Rag (rogue) and Scalpel (“scientist”).

2. Blood Red Blossoms

The demoness Ōshirogumo fed on the nightmares of the living and birthed a new world, a ruined island where dark spirits roam free. A dark fantasy setting based on Japanese folklore and the Sengoku period of constant feudal warring. Forget the bureaucracy and convoluted etiquette of Edo: the land is awash in bloodshed, warring clans threaten the rule of the Crimson Princess and a warrior’s loyalty belongs to the highest bidder.

As I see it, this one could go in one of two directions:

a) Crews replaced by Clans (heavy focus on clan vs. clan conflict, retainers, scores completely reworked, less “daring scoundrels” and more “ruthless lords”); Playbooks replaced by Scrolls (soldier, mage, shaman, assassin, courtier…); think Kurosawa war movies + Ni-Oh + Kuon.

b) You play as a clan of Shinobi. Regardless of your specialization, you work as an agent for other clans while furthering your own agenda (you might be assassins, spies, or even demon slayers). This is closer to normal Blades; think Ni-Oh + Ku-On + Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun + 13 Assassins.

Discuss! And thanks for the attention 🙂

Art: Vanishing of Ethan Carter Screen (The Astronauts) & Gashadokuro (Utagawa Kuniyoshi)

Completely straightforward question: Do you think it’s possible to play Blades “the way it’s intended to be played”…

Completely straightforward question: Do you think it’s possible to play Blades “the way it’s intended to be played” (I know, a heavy statement, but I mean it) with only a GM + two players? I happen to only have two regulars at the moment, and can’t really bring myself to play online.

EMPEROR PROTECT!!!

We did it! Here is the finished document with the rules modifications, crew sheet, and playbooks. Anything that is not included here works exactly as in standard Blades in the Dark. Except retirement. Duty is eternal, so you either die an Acolyte, or become the Enemy. Have fun!

You can adapt this to both Askellon and Calixis (or to a Sector of your own design). Hopefully someone will make good use of this! Annnd I’m also done spamming about it 😛

If you guys have question, ask them down here 😀

Also, if I ever add or change something, I will probably put updates in the comments section of this post.

Now go out there and purge some heretics!

Here you go! All eight classes (maybe I’ll do the Adepta Sororitas in the future, they are quite narrow but a huge favorite of mine).

Coming next is the “crew” sheet with the rules for tier, reputation and suspicion. Also, a table with the Imperial Divinations 🙂

Please feel free to leave comments and tell me what you think! Hopefully someone will find this useful 😀
