  1. It’s generally for splat books for ongoing systems for larger companies to maintain and expand the range (WoD springs to mind) – I can’t see it happening in Blades. It’s (IMHO) best left to the individual groups that play the game, although aside from the recommended media for ideas in the book, John could offer some suggestions perhaps, as examples of what may have occurred. Or it could just be left as a section in this google group to expand and add ideas to the setting that aren’t published officially.

  2. I suppose I was coming from the point of view that an long string of only larceny type adventures/stories could become dull after awhile.

But I have not played so its only a gut feeling, maybe long running games are going into more intrigue based stories

So I was wondering if some over arching plot (from the creator, I can of course make my own if I wanted) might be nosing around for those that wanted to use it.

  3. Oh I hear where you are coming from Allan, but truly, once you play more than a few sessions, the Characters and Crew develop a life all their own – changing and developing the setting as they rise up in the world of Doskvol’s seedy Underbelly.

John Harper did mention early on that his intention was to have the system run at more than one ‘level’ – so that once your crew got to 4th Tier, your crew became a character and you could run more political and organisational depth games, where the crews are movers and shakers in the world at large.

  4. There’s no specific metaplot, but when you see all of the various faction write-ups and how they interact, you’ll be able to run lots and lots of intrigue in Duskwall, no problem. The ‘real’ game of Blades isn’t larceny, it’s the consequences and resulting stories rippling through the closed environment of the city.

  5. I’m keener though that the metaplots are character based and not world changing as the PCs were stars of an action movie. Hence individual to the players and their characters. They’re stars, but of heist movies and more often fiasco type movies ☺. I guess it’s a bit like other rpgs with levels and progression of characters that must include increases in personal power – you get genre creep.
