Just had the idea that it would be fun to be able to choose a combat-style for each character.

Just had the idea that it would be fun to be able to choose a combat-style for each character. So while charactercreation choose 1Style and one Special ability, or non style (supporting/noncombat character) and 1 ability + 1 extra Action dot. Aply 3 action dots freely.

Tank: heavy (armor) + Close (combat)

Ballist: heavy + range

Sworddance: quick + close

Rogue: quick + stealth

Gunslinger: quick + range

Musketeer: close + range

Hunter: stealth + range

Assasine: stealth + close

  1. I would distinctive into cathegories.

    -Combat Abilities

    -Special Abilities

    -Whisper Abilities

Choose 2 of those, from different cathegories, at character creation.

  2. Well I dont want things to become overly complicated, but like a more open character creation. And the combat system was a but flat for my taste. Dont worry i dont want to bring back simulationist ganestyles, but using the Combat style as a means for narrative anchor, “how” the character chooses to fight.

  3. Exactly. Could be applied to other ‘conflict types’ too… How does your rogue travel the thieves highway? Or How does your scoundrel wheel and deal?

  4. I though à lot about it trying to adapt the system for secret of the 7th sea. If you’re interested I could translate my drafts.

Mechanically I was trying to create something based on keywords interacting on a rock-paper-scissor basis.

  5. I’m intrigued by this, but I’m curious how many non-Cutters get into combat that’s more than quick/clean murder. In my players’ cult crew, they usually leave the actual combat to the Cutter or their gangs, supporting with tricks, inspiration, arcane abilities, or making use of environmental opportunities. (For reference, the crew has every playbook represented, and due to warring with the Lampblacks, most scores have included hefty doses of violence.)

  6. Well I got what is written above, I havent fleshed it out yet.

But I was thinking to give them an ability for each dot in Combat that they have on the charactersheet.
