So I’ve been playing Blades solo to while away my time posted away from home at work. I finally took the time to write the first little bit up. Its been a great learning curve and rather fun. I’ll keep plugging away the AP if folks are interested. The narrative is in black text, the mechanical text in blue. Comment if you like 🙂

So in tonight’s session the concept of zero level effect came up, since effect level gets manipulated far more than the dice pool in the current rules.

We like it!

After some fumbling it is mentioned briefly under dominance and also in the teamwork section as a mitigation principle for aiding. Which is also great!

But Perhaps John Harper on the effects and consequence page there needs to be a zoo effect ‘box’ just to highlight that scale/potency/quality can reduce an effect to zero?

Hey Adam Koebel, do you guys have online character sheets for your hangouts game (or read/writable pdfs)?

Hey Adam Koebel, do you guys have online character sheets for your hangouts game (or read/writable pdfs)? I have everything on hand in a hard copy, but due to wandering around the countryside, having something accessible online would make a scene here or there far more achievable.

Can I just say, the NPC generator 2 is gold!

I’ve just been sent to a rural posting for work, and have a bit more downtime on hand, so I’ve been indulging in a little solo RP with Blades. The idea is to generate some Solo GM fun and come up with some cool ‘tales of legendary scores’ to throw at the PCs in our regular game.

Along with the steampunk Tarot, the random charts and the NPC generator have given SO much inspiration for the story. I particularly like the addition of the desires/reviles/occupation(s) ward/tavern variables – They tell a story in like, 5 words!

I’ll post a posthumous AP soon….

It wasn’t really a big deal, and we weren’t that interested in playing out the fiction blow by blow.

I suggested the player use their Prowess attribute as the trait for the daring action roll (at standard effect )and used the core mechanic to narrate the montage of the ‘hunt’ in the fiction. The player rolled a critical success for great effect and had a little moment of authorial bliss as they described their slippery, shadowy murder in the dark.

Later, I thought I might have bypassed the action roll granularity and used the attribute as an action trait rather than just for resisting consequence.

The group was happy and I thought was a neat way of condensing the fiction during downtime.

Thoughts?

Played Sean Nittner’s Gaddoc Rail Score this evening at Ettin Con with resounding success! The bunch of wily scoundrels were after a ghost-hunting weapon being transported in an elaborately arcane chest, promising to deliver to Lyssa of the Crows.

The players had fun with a few set-up flashbacks involving procurement of uniforms, tapping old alliance contacts and murdering a few bluecoats by offering their bodies to hungry ghosts. The crew went primarily with a deceptive plan, smartly avoiding direct conflict, pulling off a ‘pick up and deliver’ score incognito, via the canals and sewers under the city.

A brief downtime phase allowed us to dabble in the new crew mechanics to good effect.

Love Love Love the new effect system and the ‘push your luck’ nature of the escalation mechanics. Players LOVED that. It was so tense. Everyone stressed out to the max too. Such a great game.

So I’m thinking my heist ‘clocks’ may just become physical ‘keys’.
