Thought of an idea – how to make it worthwhile for the players to stashing gold (other than roleplaying purposes).

So! If player ended the game with 0 – 10 stash. It’s just it – he is as good as dead. Maybe if he stashed some money, the kind MC can allow him to contact the rest of the gang one more time and give them some sort of information (like a contact only he knew or something like this)

11-20 Stash. The character can leave some of the unique stuff he aquired during play to the next character his player creates. I’m not talking about equipment on the list, but maybe some artifact he stole a while ago and decided not to sell. Or some cool customized weapon he bought not so long ago.

Stash 21-39. The character got some sort of buisness, that can act as an asset or even turf for the crew. The player must describe it.

Stash 40: The player can not only add some turf to the crew, but also add up some followers to their gang, give them some rep or upgrade their hideout.

What do you think, guys?

I present to you the Duskwall Heist Deck.

I present to you the Duskwall Heist Deck.

This deck is designed to help the GM make up heists on the fly. There are two kinds of cards inside.

One type involves obstacles. Each card has a Duskwall flavored obstacle that defends a heist site, complete with questions to get you thinking about customizing it. The back side has suggestions to make the obstacle more or less difficult. There are 50 cards in this section.

The other type has an important person on one side, and a potential treasure on the other. You can use the person side to draw potential employers and targets. You can use the treasure side to see what the scoundrels might be after! There are 40 cards in this section.

To round it all off, there is a free .pdf with suggestions for how to use the deck to set up a heist, or for other improvisational purposes. Take a look!

Special thanks to John Harper, who was supportive of this idea! I hope it will be really helpful to GMs who want to show off the haunted city of Duskwall in all its sordid glory.

I am starting to conceptualize a crew who handles spirit removal.

I am starting to conceptualize a crew who handles spirit removal. Ghostbusters style. A game set in duskwall about hunting down ghosts and cleansing warehouses, apartments, and factories.

I’m currently split between making it a spirit wardens crew sheet and having players be part of that organization or having the crew be a sort of unofficial/unlicensed service. “we’re like Uber, but for exorcisms”

Does anyone have any preference to one or the other?

I made a little visual aid for Blades in the Dark.

I made a little visual aid for Blades in the Dark.

I made a little visual aid for Blades in the Dark. It’s a bar chart showing the result/success chances depending on the dice pool rolled. I know Blades is fundamentally a narrative game but in my experience players will try to game any system so it’s good to “disclose” this kind of information as transparently as possible. In the end the least statistically savvy players will benefit the most I think.

OK that’s enough apologetics. I hope someone finds this useful.

Stras Acimovic Sorry to keep bothering about your add-ons (loved the Spider BTW), but I was wondering when we might expect to see Scum and Villainy?  I have a long running Star Wars campaign that has cycled through a couple of different rules set.  I am using the Cortex plus system (Firefly) right, but we have been using the Blades job system.  I like the system overall, but the rolls take too long to adjudicate.  I think a full rules shift to a Blades style system might work really well for us.  Also, will the playbooks include Jedi types?

[add on] I’ve been pondering a random action generator for ongoing campaigns. Certainly a new gang will make allies and enemies with factions through their deeds, but sometimes you need the factions to be active and don’t have a clear idea what they would be doing. I see it as a list of possible activities, and a a list of which faction is responsible. Possibly with another list of complications…

[hack] I love Duskwall as a setting – but I could easily see this as fitting in the Bas-Lag setting as well (China Meiville’s novels – Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council). Less undead, more magic, and more oppressive government. The idea of all policing forces being secret policing forces would really make it a different feel for the game.

“When you eat a monster’s still warm heart.”

Maxime Girard asked about magic and monsters in B.a.D so I thought I’d show you my answer to the wizard, The Chimera. The Chimera draws their power from eating the hearts of monsters and twisting their own flesh into unnatural shapes. Monsters are the source of most magic in B.a.D and they are strange, mysterious, and, most imporatnly, delicious.

I added one more step to the gang method.

I added one more step to the gang method.

I added one more step to the gang method. At the beginning of the session, each player tells the group how their character wants the Crows to think of him or her.

So, you see what’s important to the character, and also get the sense of what the Crows might ACTUALLY think of the character. I think it is a charming way to convey information fast and get past character sharing and into the heist.
