Running Blades for the first time tomorrow, and super excited. 🙂 So of course I have thousands of questions. But just one for now…

There’s probably already some conversation somewhere about this that I can’t find, but: how does Blades resolve player vs player action?

Today my crew is going to have two scores happening simultaneously.

Today my crew is going to have two scores happening simultaneously. I have no problems with running two scores at a time, but I am thinking about the fallout:

Should there be two separate payoffs and/or entanglements?

Personally I would lean to having one entanglement, as they will be getting heat from two separate scores as is.

As the two scores are just them splitting up in the city and trying too sell one half of the drugs they liberated previously, I think separate payoffs make sense.

How would you handle this?

Just finished up watching this rather delightful, slowly building tale of dark smuggling and murderous wrecking in the wilds of Cornwall.

An excellent touchstone for a smuggling (wrecking) crew, complete with a Lair (the Jamaica Inn), dubious ‘friends’, corrupt bluecoats and delicious Devil’s Bargains.

Highly recommended.

The Church of Ecstasy of the Flesh…

The Church of Ecstasy of the Flesh…

The Church of Ecstasy of the Flesh…

Help me understand this. Or how to make tweaks to my game setting.

What myself and my players want is to have a faux-catholic inquisition type church similar to the Abbey of the Everyman from Dishonored or the Church of the Builder from Thief. I told my group that the Spirit Wardens are like the Overseers from Dishonored. Similar to Witch Hunters. And as a matter of fact I was going to make it a secret that Hulls are animated by spirits.

My group really likes this idea of the ancient occult versus controlling zealots.

My crew are weird Assassins allied with the Reconciled.

How does the Church of the Ecstasy of the Flesh fit in? First of all, I’m having a little difficulty understanding this faction as written. They’re the ‘state religion’ but also a secret society? They venerate Demons?

Seems completely at odds with the Spirit Wardens who they ally with. I want to rename the Church in my game to ‘The Church of the Everyman’ to make it more of a collectivist state religion that focuses on humility and industrious work ethic, refraining from vices or dabbling in the occult.

Are there other suggestions on how this would change the faction’s network and dynamics?

Hey all!

Hey all!

Hey all! I have a fresh crew of Shadows who’ve agreed to sneak into Master Slane’s cruel workhouse in Coalridge’s Ironworks, sabotage the facility, and assist the Lost in firebombing it once and for all.

How would you go about running this score, and what are some interesting complications, events, etc. that you would have happen if you were running it?

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

Hey folks! I admittedly have yet to play the game, but judging from a couple of AP podcasts, Blades appears to have a tendency to focus on situations revolving around a single character with few opportunities for other PCs to contribute meaningfully (for instance during flashbacks or downtime). Is this an issue in your games and if so, how do you deal with this?

I’m curious what other people do to prep scores for their scoundrels.

I’m curious what other people do to prep scores for their scoundrels. Like, how much do you like to have ready? Are there specific things you try to be ready for? Specific things you don’t worry about prepping for?

I have a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with prepping. I want to feel ready, but I never know how much is enough and I get a bit of decision paralysis.

In general I’m pretty comfortable improvising a lot of stuff at the table, but Blades seems like the kind of game I should come to the table with at least something.

So far I’ve just run one job, which was for the crew to ransom some information out of a guy. All I came to the table with was the target, the client, and where the target lived. I feel like it went okay, but I feel like it could have gone better if I’d had a little more in my back pocket.

Any input/advice is appreciated!

Any ideas on what the Covert Drops claim might look like in-fiction?

Any ideas on what the Covert Drops claim might look like in-fiction? In our game it’s being used by a former Sparkwright to transfer some dodgy spirit extracts back to someone at the guild, but I figure it makes sense for it to be run by a third party that the PCs can supplant. This one is probably in Coalridge, as that’s where most of the action is currently going down.
