The faction sheets were requested by Thomas Berton a few weeks ago.

So one of the things I like to do as I’m getting hype to run or play a game (run, in this case – my first time, but I’m just gonna hyperventilate into this paper bag and it’ll be fine) is to consume some appropriate media and view it through the lens of the game, so I can really start to grasp how I can use the system to convey what I want it to.

I happened to watch me some John Wick last night, for instance, and that’s where I started. So I’ll consider things like playbooks (John’s a pretty maxed out Cutter, who dipped for Reflexes, Tough as Nails, and probably Vengeful; I pictured Marcus as a Hunter), how they’re accomplishing things (John’s old list of friends and contacts, old favors in the underworld’s economy), and interesting risks and consequences (an old friend working the front door of the club).

Notably, there was a lack of downtime in the film, so clearly John’s player was being super careful with Stress. (Or he was using the old rules with the abilities which let you clear stress on crits. 😉 )

Am I the only person who does this? Not just looks at media, but specifically frames it in the rules to see how to make it work? What other great ideas from scenes have ended up working super well when looked at through that lens?

Quick cry for help from you guys – I’ve set up a Blades game on Roll20 using the inbuilt and rather splendid character sheets. Until tonight all worked wonderfully – now whenever anyone tries to roll dice (either by clicking on the appropriate trait in the character sheet as usual or entering a dice command in chat etc) all we get is “Rolling…” then an error message that the roll failed verification, and a backfilled chatbox as though loads of rolls have been made none of them relating to what’s happened.

I’ve logged into other non Blades games and all is working fine in there.

Any ideas?

How big the turf can be?

How big the turf can be?

How big the turf can be? There is an example of street intersection which is obviously not very big. Its not very useful for providing scores also, is it? I imagine that a lot of offers that will come will be on a hostile turf. Am I right?

Is there a way to represent mechanicaly owning a district or is it only possible to do by a social contract between gangs?

So the Blind Hour.

So the Blind Hour.

So the Blind Hour. Help me out. There are fragments of the old sun in the sky that light up at dawn and at twilight, right? I thought that it is a cool visual, but later I read about the fog that descends on the city at that time. It is so strong that people see actually less than at “night”.

Is the sun visible at all or does it dissolve in the fog creating a white ambient light that blinds all the people that are accustomed to living in the dark?

Second, kind of followup question: Do people see much better in darkness?

There is a mechanical example of sniping from a distance that grants you controlled position and a great effect. I imagine that it had to be somewhat lit but in the real world sniping at night would be considered harder than controlled and great. Wait. Was it the big moon? How bright is the moon or the triple moon?

Hi, I could use some advice abvout a palyer converting to a ghost and then to a vampire.

Situation: Our lurk happened to “steal” a hollow in the last session so he had the glorious idea that he could kill himself, hire someone to hide his body and then turn into a ghost, learn the possess ability and take control of the body.

Has anyone here done this before? What were your experiences with a ghost player? How did you handle his turning into a vampire?

To be specific I am unsure about the following aspects:

1. “You may weakly interact with the physical world”. I think I’ll let the player attempt anything he likes but change position and / or effect to represent his weak physical representation (or the fear / panic / felt by humans interacting with him). Will this be enough to represent his ghostliness?

2. The ghost meta game: The goal of the player is to become a vampire. I am afraid that this will mean that his only concern as a ghost will be to get as many XP triggers as possible and this could make the whole ghost part rather boring and pointless. How have you handled this in your sessions?

3. Any general / fun ideas I could use to make his time as a ghost or his conversion to a vampire more interesting / engaging?

4. Should I be concerned about the balancing of a vampire? It seems like he gains a huge amount of stats, especially combined with the 3 free dots of the ghost^^

Cheers and thanks for reading!
