Hey friends in the dark.

Hey friends in the dark.

Hey friends in the dark. I could use some help running a compelling one-shot. I’m running a single 4-hour session of Blades in the Dark at a con this weekend, and I need help thinking about how to tell a compelling story in only 2 scores without much focus on downtime, the crew sheet, or faction relationships. How can I pre-load some PC personal arcs players can choose that allow nice closure within a one-shot plot?

For context, I plan to use the gang rules by Andrew Shields, and in fact I’m running the game with a Shadowrun/cyberpunk skin by having attune cover either hacking or magic, swapping contacts and gear options, and making heritage metatypes like elf, troll, etc. Otherwise most supernatural stuff will instead simply be flavored either matrix/digital stuff or mage/shaman stuff almost one-for-one. Looks like the re-skin should work without too much trouble.

I suspect I should look to the format of great one-shots Sean Nittner and others have produced?

Hey guys and girls

Hey guys and girls

Hey guys and girls,

In our monthly GM game ( 6 gm who take turns in running ames for each other) We had planned to play Blades in the Dark for the November meetup since the game was supposed to hit the stores then :p

Now the release is being delayed and I was wondering if there was a legal!!! way to buy the up to date quickstart pdf?

Cheers,

I am playing a Whisper in a game currently and have a few questions.  I know the supernatural elements are not fully described in the rules yet, but there are a few questions that have come up for me that I think would really help with the character.

I have a Ghost Key that can open ghost doors.  What is a Ghost Door?

One of the special abilities says that you can consort with Demons, lost gods, and other entities.  Does this mean that you can’t roll consort against a Demon without this ability?

There is mention of attuning with the Ghost Field to gather information.  How is this done?  Is it like gazing into the abyss in Monsterhearts?

A few points in the rules mention paying a whisper to exercise ghosts.  If you are  whisper how do you go about doing so?  I have been starting  business in a turf we are working to take over where I use compel to create a ghost problem then I then swoop in to deal with cheaper than the Rail Jacks.  How would I best deal with an unquiet dead entanglement or generally clear out a real ghost infestation?

I made a score.

I made a score.

I made a score. It worked great for a first session but it should also work mid-campaign. I didn’t flesh out the complications section, but if inspiration strikes I will.

Obviously this uses the same structure as Sean Nittner’s Gaddoc Rail Station: https://plus.google.com/+SeanNittner/posts/TMfsEZm7NfU

Kudos also to Chris Boyd’s thoughts that provoked me to think about the Church of the Ecstasy of the Flesh and its opponents: https://plus.google.com/114451952512667903737/posts/bqmpCEoA38t

I also reference Dirk Detweiler Leichty’s excellent one-pager Bleakwood House oddities. When I ran this score, this sheet gave just enough to inspire.

When moving up a Tier do groups add extra characters that they can play as alternates to their main character for certain missions?

Going from Tier 0 (5 members) to Tier 1 (10 members) must offer some benefit to actual participants in the crew without making/starting a gang.

So I backed the kickstarter and set the game aside in my mind to wait until it was finished.

So I backed the kickstarter and set the game aside in my mind to wait until it was finished. A week or so ago I saw there was a Quick Start packet and I was able to sit down and read it last night. Suffice to say I’m really excited about playing this game. So much so that I’m going to run it for my grognard gamer group who are all older, more experience with different game systems, and more critical of rookie GMing. Is there a resource for more information about Duskwall yet? Should I just run the Quick Start game as a one-off adventure then wait for the full release to start a full campaign?

Burglaries vs. Robberies.

Burglaries vs. Robberies.

Burglaries vs. Robberies.

Isn’t it damned risky Heat-wise to Rob people, versus sneaking in a stealing all of their stuff?

I mean, can a Bank Robbery ever be low Exposure? Should a GM automatically always give the bigger scores to the biggest exposure to lure players into the spotlight?

Should there be an exponential line between Risk and Reward?

One of m players made that observation, as we were talking of what to do, now they have gotten rid of the murdergas.
