How have you managed “Strange Methods” and “Artificer” in Flashbacks?

How have you managed “Strange Methods” and “Artificer” in Flashbacks? Did you charge Stress using the Magnitude rules? Called action rolls to enstablish the usefulness of the object? Something else?

Last session I had my Whisper pay Stress to use a one-shot electroplasmic freezing device: it was cool (pun intended), but it seemed to overlap too much with the Tempest ability.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Is Rep gained from scores variable or is it purely a function of the Tier of the faction you are messing with?

Is Rep gained from scores variable or is it purely a function of the Tier of the faction you are messing with? Could you gain +1 Rep for a particularly daring score, or -1 Rep for a particularly tame score?

Also, if you are trying to pin the score on someone else to reduce Heat gained and/or reduce faction Status lost, does that affect your Rep? Doesn’t gaining Rep from a score imply that everybody knows it was you who pulled it off?

Finally, what’s the fictional explanation for spending Rep to take additional downtime actions? The only thing I can think of is: you’re spending extra time between scores, so word of your exploits is beginning to fade. I think that’s a perfectly fine explanation, but I’m wondering what else people have come up with.

If a score involved stolen goods, does the payoff automatically implies the sale of those goods (and the resulting Coins)? How do you guys manage payoffs without immediate profit?

It seems they all hate the Spirits Wardens. Must be very lonely to be one 😉

One of my players has expressed interest in being the “forger” of this crew of smugglers, making, doctoring, and falsifying records to add legitimacy to their contraband.  The crew has the “quality documents” upgrade; but I think the player wants to be a little more involved (i.e. make some rolls either during down time or in flashbacks) in the processes of actually making the documents.  I know sitting for hours in a room with a stack of papers and ink isn’t exactly a daring action; but I want to engage an aspect my player is excited about.  Any suggestions?

Do they need to be human? What are the ramifications of making them a team of fighting dogs?

Our crew of breakers decided to have our Thugs be Loyal and Savage Rottweilers, and we didn’t see any terrible results off the bat. They need to be commanded, they fight alongside us, you can just roll quality if you need them to track something, etc.

I’m sure this has been asked 20 million times, but I don’t know how to search this forum for a topic.

What’s the difference between a Gather Information roll during downtime and a Gather Information roll other times? Are there certain questions you can only ask during downtime, or can you gather information about anything at any time? If so, why would you ever use a downtime action to Gather Information?

I was wondering if there was a particular rationale for the attributes used in resistance rolls.

If I’m trying to avoid being stabbed in a duel, why is Finesse 1, Prowl 1, Skirmish 1 better than Skirmish 3?  Sure, all that parkour and pickpocketing has trained my reflexes, but surely extensive swordsmanship would have too.

Is there mechanical or narrative reason for the way it works?

So on an upcoming 8 hour flight I’m going to indulge in a little solo Blades action, using the quick start random tables for all they are worth and the existing start-up situation. I’ll use a combination of the Die of Fate / Story Dice and the Steampunk Tarot app for inspiration when stuck.

I’m leaning toward the Cult Crew, and 2PCs, as I have GoT Faceless God stuff in my brain, and hope to push the turf claims on the Crew sheet for scores – as they signify pretty well what the Cult Crew is all about.

I have a question though… Crew sheets are listed with 2 upgrade boxes already ticked. The cult for instance has a cohort of Adepts and Resolve Training. Does that mean that Cohort advance (if taken at crew creation) costs only 1 instead of the normal 2 upgrades?

Seems I searched for the “wrong” key words ’til now. I tried “victorian” and “architecture” for the buildings. Now, I know I should have used “abondoned” and/or “decay” instead for the buildings. Wow! Great stuff again for inspiration on descriptions and plot lines. Some cool walls for this topic already there to explore. Awesome.
