Weller the Shoe, a familiar figure of the Dockside, staggering home from the drug dens, red of eye, pinprick pupils and nostrils encrusted with powder. His man Veck finds him and takes him home most evenings, knowing that Weller will most likely spend their savings tomorrow. Would that the slums could get cleaned out of those slags that poison its people..

Nobodies of Doskvol: Callum Torborn, no. 8 of 2.

I think of Callum as becoming like Frank Sobotka from S2 of The Wire. Maybe a little larcenous, mostly loyal and valiant. Nonetheless getting increasingly dirty as he tries to make a place for his distrusted ethnic enclave amongst the shipyards and docks of an unbelievably corrupt city. Some Vigilantes might hang him from a lightpost as a warning, but maybe he’s as good as it gets in Doskvol.

Now I don’t know whether or not couriers in canon Doskvol are daring young parcour types. Vaulting from narrow gable to slippery slate rooftop to avoid the Bluecoats. Kind of hard to avoid that version in my head though, so here you go.

Also blind owls.

Bendis Haig, the vile smelling sewage worker. If poor Bendis were a PC, that drain snake would be magical or significant, perhaps he would battle ghosts infesting the pipes of the church.

He’s not though, and it’s not. He’s just some unfortunate bastard that spends everyday wading through filth to keep Doskvol running and maybe earn enough for a pint down at the pub.

Adda may look like a prune of a woman, but she traffics in a similar business to our happy lot. When society cuts a lame or sick beastie out of the herd, when a lord or lady, mover or a shaker don’t have the protection of their fellows anymore, there’s Adda on ’em like a hunting hawk. Gossip pays all right, especially if it has the ring of truth to it. She bloodlets the rich and powerful in her own way, and my ma will always buy her books for it too. Dirty sexy stuff that.

It’s rare to see a smiling face in Doskvol, a sober one anyway. Made it a stab in the guts that he still had that bright expression when we pulled his body out of the harbor. Poor simple tosser must not have seen it coming..

Today: The carpenter Dyso, found covered in grease and sawdust at odd hours in some sad and crooked shed down in Dunslough. Looks like he’s telling you not to bother, nothing ever changes in this city..

Thank you for the kind words Sean and John! I shall go ahead and knock out the rest of the “nobodies” from the Vigilantes set. Here’s Della Thorn, not having any of your shit, apparently. Girls’ got to make an honest living running that carriage, no matter how many of your teeth it costs you.
