The Typhoon Atolls: a guide to the islands of the Atolls,

By popular request here is the first page of a series on the islands. In TA, the heist is replaced by “The Journey,” a heroic quest to far away lands in search of knowledge, tools and resources to bring home to their burgeoning civilization.

One of the most pleasant types of discovery would be the Cradle Island, similar to the Home Isle, and a fine place to start a new village, though not lacking in adventure, as you will see.

Thought some world-building might be in order, and this is a good way to show that the Atolls are.. not really on our world, or even a next-door type of universe.

Hello Scoundrels, here is an update for the Typhoon Atolls hack:

Added this time is the playbook for the Tambour, musician and wanderer.

Why all of the emphasis on musical instruments?

The Encyclopedia of Things that Never Were has the following to say on drums:

“for example, the drumskin should be made of fishskin or birdskin if the ritual is designed to influence creatures of water or air..human skin if the ritual is one concerned with the tribespeople, such as raising the dead or disspelling evil spirits from an afflicted person.”

There’s so much potential in that entry, and when running this world I try to communicate a world where art, oral tradition and magic are one, and all work to bridge the veil between spirit and human.

Per usual, please let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions, the brain trust here is invaluable!

Hello friends, here is the updated version of The Typhoon Atolls for your enjoyment. I’ve added some more of this hack’s “crew” sheets, as well as plot hooks and a brief description of what the game is about.

In short, I wanted to explore a bit of why we tell stories, and how what we’re doing here can draw a pretty straight line to earlier fables.

Enjoy!

Hacking Blades for a Mythic Approach: Rules for you scoundrels to try out.

Hello folks, here is the current version of the Typhoon Atolls hack for Blades.

Would you like to run the ultimate score and steal fire from the Underworld? Would you like to put on the mask of a mythical hero and get the hell beat out of you by powerful beings while trying to make life better for your people and build a whole mythic cycle?

Then this may just be the hack for you.

Also included (in the first comment): 40 Spirit Cards to print out and represent the powerful beings that replace the Devil’s Bargain and Factions in this hack.

This is for play testing purposes, so please, let me know what you think, and how I could make this better.

Here’s the Sorcerer, which I thought I had already posted, but could not find. Sort of the dark counterpart to the Sage’s sunny disposition.

Now I’m done posting for a bit. Thank you for all of your kind words folks, you’ve lit a fire under my behind to finish this up.

Being vehicle oriented sucks in games. The poor cavalier never got much use out of his horse in the dungeon, and the rigger is frequently stuck in the van.

An islander setting needs a hero who focuses on the boat but is useful outside of it. This Navigator playbook hopefully shows the idea of travel, discovery and arrival expanded upon.

That’s it for these, folks. You’ve shown interest have provided great feedback. I thank you for that. Now it’s time to take my frankly terrifying notes from local playtest groups and turn them into something compact and elegant for you.

In the end I decided to go with no labels, but a few suggestive monsters. My players have decided that the tree on the bottom left is the entrance to the underworld, the one on the top right allows them to climb to the domain of the air spirits.

Next up, the Wayfinder, my last test playbook, and then the upgrades for the Island.

I wanted to lean into the classic cleric or shaman but with a few changes. Make a playbook for a character that gets out of jams through generosity of spirit and wisdom.

Also: RIP Ursula, you knew the True Names of all things.

I’m not sure quite how many map zones Stras Acimovic is using for Band of Blades, or even how many is the right amount for a campaign that spans ages, so this map went through a lot of iterations, especially since I wanted to zoom it out a bit to show some of the cosmology of this little world.

This is the top half of the mostly complete end result. Tiny ink print islands with something like meridian lines to break them up.

Would you all like to see:

Names on the islands or would you prefer to make your own?

More stuff? Less?
