Inspired by a bunch of folks here, I’ve cooked up the overlays and Roll20 set-up for a game I’ll be streaming very soon (Session #0 next week, Thursday 14th, 7PM – 10PM AEST). We’ll be hosted at https://www.twitch.tv/benscerri.

The game’s called The Doskvol Circulation War, and the premise is:

Whilst the Skovlan Unity War is over, the seed of rebellion lives on. Inspired by their comrades across the ink-black sea, revolutionaries in Duskwall are ready to light the fire of a popular uprising…they just need a vector for their message. A broadsheet! But a falling out, just as things are getting started, may spell the inevitable collapse of these Duskwall Communists. Two competing newspapers are starting, and the Doskvol Circulation War is just beginning.

Here’s how we’re looking!

I thought I’d do a deep-dive into the fortune system in All Shall Fade, as it’s one of the main innovations on the Forged in the Dark core, and one of the things I get asked about most. Check it out! https://redworld.press/blog/2018/4/22/ywjr985562bm4s2w55xm4kwo8voc5w

Also, if you’re interested in checking out All Shall Fade as it currently stands (it’s fully playable, already!) then check out my Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/redworldpress where it’s available at all pledge levels. Cheers 😀

I’ve been working on an RPG Forged in the Dark for some time (~2 years?) called #AllShallFade, and it’s getting real close to ready for public playtesting. It’s a grim fantasy, cosmic horror, swords & sandals dungeon delver. If that doesn’t make sense to you, maybe this will:

Above, the world has faded. It is dead. Great scientists and enchanter kings have put their people to sleep to survive the onslaught of a falling sky, and to wait for a new home.

We have turned to the underground, the great Dungeon below. Filled with primordial horrors and uncountable evils, they are our only hope.

To conquer these ancient vaults, the worst prisons of the old Empire have been emptied and their inmates unleashed.

Armed, armoured and sent into the darkness, YOU must clear the Dungeon before they too fade.

You are a criminal of the old Empire, not deemed worthy to be put to sleep. You’re the worst they had to offer. You’re their only hope. What was it that drove you to crime in the world above? What is it that the Dungeon offers that your old life never could? With this new chance, will you yourself, conquer the dungeon for your own interests, or be destroyed by the ever-shifting horrors that await you.

And here’s a look at one of the seven playbooks going into it, the Murderer. Enjoy!

Very interesting video, and very relevant to Blades in the Dark given its actions rather than skills.

Very interesting video, and very relevant to Blades in the Dark given its actions rather than skills. From what I can tell, all of the actions are hard verbs (though not necessarily something people would do in their normal lives, they are things we are always exposed to characters doing).

This is making me think about my own hack, where I do have the action Investigate. Maybe it would be better served as Examine? Investigate suggests ambiguity… What might I find out? How do I do it? Examine, on the other hand, can be done in much the same ways as Investigate, but the end result is that a fact will be gleaned.

I’m working on a kinda-_hack of _Blades called Do or Dice, and have been struggling with the concept of downtime for a while now. I had a bit of a breakthrough today, and thought some here might be interested in the re-imagining of stress relief, and overindulgence.

For context, Do or Dice is an attempt to merge many of the concepts of Fate Core with much of Blades in the Dark, and has been in production in some form for a few years now. It’s a generic-in-setting but specific-in-style game (like Fate).

Inspired by the U’Duasha special edition, I’ve been working on a Hadrathi conlang. I started with the words given by John et al, and have been analysing it to see if there are any similarities. I’ve then started just expanding on it, and giving meaning to various roots.

Lots of this is still placeholder, though. Many words have no gloss, or meaning, and the IPA is still in progress. There also isn’t a strict grammar yet, but I’m getting there!

This isn’t really the proper way to conlang, but it’s fun, and I’m enjoying it. If you get inspiration to give meaning to anything, let me know and I’ll see if it fits!

UPDATE:

I have uploaded everything to Google Docs for ease of sharing and keeping it in the same place. Everything will be open for folks to view and comment as they desire!

Watching Six Towers Gang Ep 3, and the discussion at the end about Haig being a bit Cutter, a bit Slide, and a bit Lurk, but DEFINITELY NOT some parts of each got me thinking: would there be anything wrong with swapping out whole special abilities with other playbooks, and creating frankenplaybooks? Use one as a base, like Cutter, and then take out the special abilities that just don’t fit for your character, and then put in the special abilities that might fit down the line from another playbook. This would require everyone to make sure there isn’t a crossing of streams – only one type of special armour, only one Ghost ability, etc.

Thoughts?
