I’ll be running a one-shot of Blades in the Dark at a gaming convention in a little bit. I have my own thoughts (Bravos), but what crew type do you think would be the best to have pre-selected for a one-shot blades game?

  1. Just pre make characters and don’t worry about crew stuff. Let the players decide how they want to do it so they don’t feel boxed into playing a “type” of crew.

  2. Assassins, Bravos, or Smugglers would be my top pick for a one-shot. Shadows and Hawkers next, and last the Cult.

Maybe make one of each of those and let the table choose.

How long of a session are you planning?

  3. I typically spend between 30-45 minutes on character creation at the table. Pay attention to what your players tell you about their background and use that to figure out 1 or 2 factions to be allies or enemies for the job, then just jump in. I’ve found that deciding things like lair location and upgrades just make a oneshot more complicated than it needs to be.
