This is the latest version of my cyberpunk forged in the dark game. I’ll be playtesting starting in the new year. Still have a lot to do but I’m happy with where I am at the moment.

In Neon Black you play as a clever and scrappy crew of characters who are down on their luck and desperate to survive in a near-future world full of monolithic corporations, strange alien artificial intelligences, and underworld gangs. Steal from the rich, expose corporate lies, and make your mark in the year 21XX.

Included is almost everything you need to run my cyberpunk hack of Blades in the Dark, including:

– Character playbooks for the Click, Suit, Sleuth, and Rank. Play as a hacker, a corporate shill, a charming rogue, or a veteran soldier.

– Crew playbooks for Punks, Mercs, and the Start-Up. Create a gang of hackers, guns for hire, or a small business trying to make the next big thing.

– Rules, factions, and items reference sheets for you to print or download for ease of play.

  1. Could you provide a description of how augmentation works? All I could see is that a dot gives an “edge” to an action or ability. I’m not sure how that translates mechanically.

  2. Hey Eric. Thanks for the question.

Augmentations are the only way you get a fourth action or trait dot. You may have noticed that training doesn’t exist as a downtime activity in Neon Black, and that there’s only 9 action ratings instead of 12 as in BitD. So the “edge” that augmentation gives is that extra dice you get when rolling an action or resisting a consequence.

Augmentations come from either character creation where you get to pick one action augmentation, the Reactive Augments crew upgrade that gives everyone trait augmentation dot, or when you get a playbook item that gives you an augmentation dot for one of your actions.

So there’s no added benefit, beside being able to get 4 dots in any action or trait. Hope that helps!

  3. Michael Elliott two quick follow ups — 1. Does it add +1d as soon as you take it, or only allow you to progress to 4? 2. Is it 4 dots in any of the actions within that attribute?

    looks good-
