Dears,

Looking for some ideas for the early game of mine. I’m going to gming a crew a Shadows who want to acquire the Loyal Fence Claim.

As they has as territory a part of the gost-train station, I was thinking of a smuggler PNG, a really rich and elusive one, which move stolen and exclusive goods to the capital.

How do you feel about him?

Some ideas on HOW they can obtain his services?

And on a larger scale, what score did you run in your fiction corresponding to this claim?

Thanks!

  1. I never did the Loyal Fence claim, but the best advice I have with regards to Claims is to remember that some other faction already has them. So in the case of the Loyal Fence, they are already in the employ of some other faction. Then you can think about the means and method of that control, so that the PCs can have an avenue to break it.

So maybe this Fence just gets paid a ton of money from the Dimmer Sisters – so the PCs have to convince them that they’re business will be more profitable. Or maybe the Hive has kidnapped the Fence’s son and is holding him hostage in exchange for services rendered – so the PCs have to earn the Fence’s loyalty by rescuing his son. Or maybe the Fence is just super fascinated by all the weird Deathlands relics the Silver Nails send his way – so the PCs have to find some super-duper cool relic to impress them into switching allegiances.

Of course, these are just examples and PCs will always come up with weird ideas you didn’t expect, but on the GM side, I always find it helpful to think “who already controls this claim and how can that control be broken?”

  2. Thomas Berton , this is really helpful!

The “who already controls this claim and how can that control be broken?” is really powerful… I recall it was in the book, but somehow I underestimate its importance.

Thank you for point me on the right direction!
