I’m considering porting the BitD / FitD SRD to Fate Core, working with a long-term GM friend on some of the specifics.

My reasons for this are basically to do with my typically GMing platform: I don’t have a lot of free time, nor a regular gaming group, so I’m usually playing RPGs by play-by-post or play-by-forum. BitD is a wonderful system, but the pre-roll negotiation causes some issues for PbP; Fate is much more easy-going in this respect, with the negotiation occurring post roll instead. Whilst this changes some of the setting-mechanics mixture that is inherent to BitD, I think I can probably make it work.

That said, I’d probably need somebody to actually test the damn thing in a tabletop or virtual tabletop environment.

Is there any interest (a) in such a port and (b) being a playtester / GM?

  1. I’ve actually been thinking for a while now that a Fate version of Blades in the Dark would be amazing for a slightly more adventuresome romp in Duskwall — kind of like a Freeport thing, in spirit.

I’ve been imagining Skill Modes for Prowess, Insight, and Resolve, and dedicating Aspects to one’s Heritage and Background.

It seems like a great idea, and I support it.

  2. I’m very interested! I own a copy of BitD with which I was planning to convert to Fate but I don’t have the time. If you port it, I can mostly get it play-tested with my group that does have fate experience.

  3. Y’all are good dudes. Alfred, you know me on Tavern Keeper (as Phophos). I’m going to give it some more thought and build it up from basics – run it as more or less Fate Core to begin with, and add extra things as they’re needed.

If you want to help, beyond just playtesting (which is definitely enough), then let me know. Also at some point this totally feels like something Sean Nittner would be interested in.
