In my continuing quest to find a good map format for more open-ended games like Blades in the Dark, here’s an attempt at the Lampblacks HQ. This is intended as a creative prompt and visual aid more than a definitive map. A place to put character-tokens and clocks rather than a strict guide as to what rooms there are or what the scale is. It also gives the players something immersive to look at if you play in Roll20 or similar.

  1. Sean Sullivan Thanks – I made made the background by layering some brick into photoshop and painting on white (and some grunge). Same with the filters to be honest, it’s sort of a random collection of texture layers (about 6) set to various opacities and blend modes; there’s no particular method, just trial and error until I like it. If you look up any daguerreotype photoshop tutorial it’s similar techniques, layers of filters and textures and grunge.

  2. Nice! Will do. This sort of thing is perfect for my game on Roll20. Give a good impression of what is going on, but doesn’t need to be too specific.
