Hey everyone.

Hey everyone.

Hey everyone… I’m curious as to how you all handle travel to and from the Deathlands? In your BitD, can people pass freely through the lightning barrier, or do they need to find a way to smuggle themselves through?

I would be especially eager to hear if there is any ‘official’ thought on this, but am generally curious to hear how others are handling it.

  1. I have a Lurk who took the Deathland Poison Immunity, everyone else needed suits (that could require a session, or downtime to attain).

Once there, I had challenges around ghosts and angry spirits, stray lightning, etc.

Getting in/out of the deathlands was sort of a TSA-style customs stop for most folks. You could also disable the lightning barrier (hopefully only temporary) to get in at any point in the fence, assuming no guard patrols.

  2. In my campaign the barriers act like the wall of light in Dishonored. anything that tries to pass through gets almost instantly incinerated. In order to get through safely you need some sort of Faraday cage; most smugglers have boats studded with metal all across their surface to keep the electricity outside, while leviathan hunters go on lockdown while passing through the barrier.

  3. In our Duskwall, the lighting barrier is a literal thing. The PCs traveled on a train outside but the train makes its own barrier as it goes (which made the top of railcar high speed chase awesome).

The deathlands themselves won’t kill you in our game. The plants, animals, and posion spores will though. Also the are ghosts everywhere and sometimes they get whipped up into a spirit storm which will kill anything not protected by a barrier. This madw it pretty tense as the PCs limped back to the city on a handcart only to have the sparkcraft generator that powered the mini barrier not accept the plasm containers the Leech brought (thanks devils bargains).

  4. Chris Paladino That all sounds awesome, but I can’t seem to find what you’re talking about with the Deathland Poison Immunity. Is this something referenced in the book, or was this something house-ruled?

Thank you everyone for the input so far. I just ran a score outside of the barrier, but I’m thinking about how I can make things more interesting the next time we leave the city.
