I know the game is still quite new and spellcasters are not a feature of the default setting, but has anyone given some thought to reskinning Blades in the Dark’s Whipser playbook for Band of Blades?
I ask because I have one player in my group for whom a fantasy game without a spellcaster is likely to be a non-starter and I really would like him to be in on our Band of Blades game.
I have some fantasy spellcasters in my Blades in the Brokenlands hack. I’ll be revising them substantially in the next week or two, but here is the previous version: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MDt7vZYtdKchBtO49Vgxn7GxsUVKZ7243bqTAi-NjB0/edit?usp=sharing
That’s great, thanks for sharing, Eric!
Don’t do it. It’s bad for so many reasons. There’s a reason why “there are no wizards” is a core tenet of the game.
Not every game is for everyone, and BoB is clearly just not a game for your high fantasy friend.
If you go outside the warranty you might want to think about putting together a Mercy or Alchemist playbook. It’s not exactly “wizard” but it does give some pseudo-mystical traits to individuals that may work for your friend.
The Leech is probably a good starting position for the second with a lot of corruption side effects.
Thanks for the advice Stras! Actually, an Alchemist is kind of what I was thinking, moreso than a spell-chucking D&D/Pathfinder-style wizard. Something where corruption is a constant threat, with more subtle powers that come at a cost, to keep the dark fantasy feel of the setting.
