  1. I’ve tired other systems in PbF. I didn’t like how the DM would wait days for everyone to post once before the DM made a post. I recommend the DM saying how often they will post, and sticking to the schedule no matter how active the group was that week.

I’ve also tried a few systems as Play by Text message over Discord. The post where much shorter, but if everyone is in about the same time zone, the game can go really fast.

You always have 1-2 people who can’t be very active that week. Make plans on how to handle this (they rarely say when they aren’t going to be active because they are planning on getting caught up).

I like having weekly recaps so people don’t need to spends a few hours reading everything that happened while they were gone.

  2. Play-by-post and play-by-forum has been my primary (only?) mode of play for about five years. Sad times.

I really don’t want to put a dampener on you, but this is a “watch out”: I’ve not struggled with any game in the PbP format so much as BitD, which I tried twice. There are a few reasons for this, but it’s largely due to the player-GM negotiation happening before the roll and not after. That really snarls things up – UNLESS you’re willing to hand over a lot of trust, responsibility and narrative control to your players.

I wish you the best of luck, and if it lasts, please come back and share what you did that made it work!
