Hi guys.

Hi guys.

Hi guys. In the game example(p.40) Adam pushes his character Canter to achieve extreme effect. He does it after the roll and also despite the fact he already chose to take a devils bargain.

I dig it, I do.

But it seems to stand against the rules.

1.Rolling the dice and interpreting it is the last step. Trading position for effect, pushing and bagaining happens before that. After that you can only resist consequences.

2. He already took the bargain and rules say that can do only one – bargain or push yourself.

Was it just a jolly improvisation or did I miss something in the rules? If I did, where can I find it?

tldr; Can you push yourself for effect boost? Can you push yourself after the roll?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Actually the rules say you can push yourself for a bonus die or take a devils bargain for an extra die but not both. (The limit is on the bonus die)

Pushing for effect is independent of this and can be done in conjunction with either of the two.

So for 4 stress you can push for effect and a bonus die.

Or you could push for effect (2 stress) and take a devils bargain for a bonus die.

In fact for 6 stress you can push yourself to act whilst incapacitated, with extra effect and a bonus die.

  2. To answer the tldr:

    1. Yes.

    2. Depends on whether your group wants to have that option. Only being able to push for effect before you roll is more punishing, while being able to do it after your roll is more forgiving.

  3. Pushing yourself after the roll could be something you just generally allow like Blaze describes, but it was also a flashback – which could be determined as a 0 stress flashback anyways (depending on how long it was). There was no reason to charge stress for this kind of flashback since it falls under the 0 stress kind: an ordinary action for which you had easy opportunity
