Hey guys!

Hey guys!

Hey guys!

I would like to send the PC on a Leviathan Hunter for a score (or two). The ship should be in the harbor for a bit, but I assume those things stay a day or two after each hunt…

Any ideas, what happens/ happened on such a ship?

Currently I’m stuck with such casual plots like “all people aboard are dead/insane due to a demon” or “The navigator is dead. Who dunnit?” and I’m not happy with that.

Thanks in advance!

  1. It might be just as “casual”, but:

There’s a supernatural plague aboard the ship. All of the sailors are having strange delusions and dreams (fill in details). The authorities fear that some of the leviathan blood aboard the ship may be compromised, so they want to investigate before putting it on the market. The ship is under strict quarantine.

Here’s where the crew comes in to:

    – steal some of it, since the sailors aren’t really able to guard it completely

    – make a deal with the captain to sell something on the side and sneak it past the authorities

    – sabotage it and make sure it never goes on the market

    – recover the artefact aboard the ship that is (maybe?) causing all this

    – …

  2. It strikes me that your suggestions are reactive, whilst most BitD crews score are more pro-active. I’d start by building a small relationship map and creating some factions amongst the sailors. With potentially 30+ sailors (the Leviathan Crew encountered near the start of Rollplay Blades had about 30 crew) there is plenty of room for factions.

You then have the potential for a Standard Blades type score but punctuated with moments of sheer chaos and panic when they encounter Leviathans.

I’d also check out the John Harper actual play where they play Leviathan Hunters – thats guaranteed to generate ideas:

Note: It will contain spoilers for Bloodletters since it occurs just after Bloodletters 16.

  3. I like both Jakob Oesinghaus and Declan Feeney ‘s ideas. When I saw your question, I thought of their ship coming upon another ship. Everyone on it is dead or they’re all missing. The Captain has told the crew under no circumstances is anyone to go over to the other ship, now in tow. Of course there are rumors of treasure/powerful and strange knowledge/magic on it. Hmmm, what to do?

  4. Declan Feeney Thanks for the links! I will have a look.

Jakob Oesinghaus and Arne Jamtgaard Thanks for the ideas! Still need to think about it, but I’m sure, your input helps.
