A Fistful of Darkness – Alpha 1 Release for Playtesting

So, here you go: Another guy from Germany trying to tell cool Wild (Weird) West stories. This is the first version of my Weird West Blades hack. I’m not a game designer, I’m just a fan of the game, so please tread lightly on my baby. I’m a bit nervous about what you think of it, so I hope you like it and it’s fun to play.

It would be awesome if you and your group participate in the playtest, … please?

Let you know if I can help you with that.

  1. Thanks everybody for the kind words. Feedback is welcome and it would be very cool to see you play my game. Wright Johnson Pete Nixon Brock McCord

Mathias Belger Benjamin Davis Really? Seems so 🙂

Toimu Funny, because many parts of this document were written first in German and then translatet in (I hope) decent English. There are some German (classic Fantasy) RPGs like Midgard (not the Pathfinder settig) and Das Schwarze Auge. There is a German translation of Dungeonworld recently. There is a German Shadowrun, too.

Galen Pejeau The Framstag (Freitag + Samstag / Friday + Saturday) was already invented by Paul van Herck 🙂

  2. Roe Portal b. No, I don’t think so. He planned for it, so it may look like he’s out but he just isn’t. Plus coming back with 1 grit is on the brink of trauma anyway and I don’t want PCs getting two traumas after another.

    a. / c. thanks 🙂

  3. Awesome. I will try to convince some friends to play it. (I’m tired of always being the GM, so i need to get one)

    Sory for the Enlgish!

Again, Very good work, it seems a very solid hack.

  4. I believe I will be doing the same soon, so no worries!

I may even take a crack at a bit of art for you if you’re interested. What’s the most iconic image that comes to mind when you envision this setting?

  5. YEAH! Really like you style and plan to steal something of that as well. Iconic? Let me think. I think that’s the posse going side by side, down main street or over coming fresh from an Hellstone Mine. A bit like this one from RDR with fewer people

Trying to do something decent like this for some weeks now…

  6. Just to say I read through Fistful of Darkness and I approve, particularly like the newcomer faction idea (like when Si and his brothel shows up in Deadwood), the grit pool, the Lone Renevant and the world-building-by-map. Intrigued by the idea of hexcrawling within a BiTD system but admit the travel plan/dungeon crawl rules left me a little cold – might just have to see them in practice. I feel it’s something BiTD is crying out for though with all those Deadlands to explore, just yet to find something that really gels with the rest.

  7. William H Thanks for the feedback. Depending of the style of play Vanilla Blades may not need any additional for the dungeon crawling. The additional tables and rules are an optional add-on right now, fighting for their place in the rules. You’re right that they have to prove their value in playtesting. So, if you have any ideas for improvement I really would like to here it. I hope for Band of Blades to have any rules i could steal, but I did not see any releases from there.
