Blades on a grander scale.

Blades on a grander scale.

Blades on a grander scale.

What would people think to a system like Runner Hub?

This is a reddit forum for Shadowrun, where you make a character and accept jobs from potential GMs. Run rewards and progression are tracked and carry over to the next mission your character signs up for.

A similar thing for Blades could happen, a forum with some balancing rules (where needed), where a player makes a character and enters it into the world of the BladesHub to garner experience.

The issue here is Crew Sheets. There wouldn’t be one. Or if there was, itd be a massive crew that levels up too quickly. Perhaps a new breed of fan-made crew sheet replacements could be made for “Experts” or something, so that instead of a gang, you play as a single Expert in a certain field. For example, you might be a Leech Playbook but an Assassin Expert. Or you could be a Slide Physiker. Or a Whisper Witch. Etc.

It’s just an idea I had to build a huge runnerhub-like version of the Blades of the Dark world.

  1. I think GMs should create crews and Players should join as kind of contractors. They come in. Do the job. Get paid.

So if I create a Shadow gang called The Reivers you know what kind of game your getting into.

Means GMs and Players feel progression.

  2. Thought about this some myself, since I plan to do this for a living campaign of Runners after I finish it.

The way Daniel describes is how I plan to try it – a crew sheet remains with the GM, and players bring their free agents. Or they just don’t have a crew sheet, and everyone chooses 2 upgrades (or 1 ability) when the game starts; something like that

  3. Mark Cleveland Massengale What if players had Experts sheets (giving them their crew abilities and some added bonuses for being what ever profession they choose) but the GM has a “GM Sheet” with resources and assets that someone who hires you might have?

  4. Mark Cleveland Massengale I like a lot of your ideas! I might build on those myself when I start documenting my version. We could compare and contrast things we decided on if you want?

As for setting of the Living World; I was thinking of setting it pre-blades. During the war between Skovland and Akoros. This would generate large scale jobs, threats and scores for players, whilst the world remains alive. Though I’m not sure how I would manage invasions and stuff. Perhaps a monthly (irl) event of invasion waves or something?

Alternatively we could start this in the usual Blades setting. Not sure which way to go yet.

  5. Maybe adding a new “layer” of clocks. So instead of just score clocks and faction clocks, we also have Country Clocks? A clock to advance the goals of Skovland for example

  6. Hm. While I do like the idea of the war still ongoing as a premise for big jobs, I am not sure why you couldn’t focus on the “modern” (er.. current) timeline. I think it’s altogether possible that smaller jobs are what you’d want to focus on with such a game.

If you go with the war idea, a good way to bring that to the forefront will be something like that. Though, I’d be more pleased if it was like.. a heat clock that ticks towards retaliation. Like a global danger clock (or ticking Fronts, if you’re a Apocalypse World player)
