So … Wood. How common is wood in the Blades setting? How expensive is it? Where do the people in Duskwall get wood from?
I GMd my first game (first time playing PnP in 15 years), and it went great. The biggest question in my mind right now is “What about wood?”.
In my mind, wood would be only for the uber rich, as the lengths it would take to grow it, power costs etc with growth lamps and the like
I like to namedrop “Severosi corpsewood” when somebody is very powerful, and able to import the twisted and knotted, jet-black, bloody-sapped trees of Severos.
Jet black polished desktops, door embellishments, walking stick with perhaps a carved severosi spiritbane charm in the handle. And of course very rich blood-red syrup.
Most of your normal lumber is bamboo and mushroom planks. They can grow some tall fungus and cut up the stems. They use that for anything you’d normally just do with softwood planks or particle board.
There are some woody kelps irl that might grow large enought to be comercially viable in duskvol, but they tend not to burn well
We just discussed this in a recent game. Our conclusion was that they have a mushroom-based particle/fiber board for cheap stuff, made from mushroom pulp and some kind of glue or resin.
Our take on it was it was imported from the the jungles of the Dagger Isles as they are described as a, “tropical archipelago covered in dense jungle growth; now turned dark and
twisted from the strange magic of the cataclysm.”
