Greetings you rapscallions. Are you looking for a GM?
John Harper Please let me know if you prefer not to have this listing in your community. As a fellow backer of this game, we have included it in our platform and wish to share this resource with you all.
We have been hard at work for the past few months to create a platform that allows players to support their Game Masters, who can use it to list their games and build a reputation as fantastic storytellers. You can find this at http://www.LookingForGM.com.
Let me tell you just some of the ways you may benefit from this platform:
– build your reputation as a sensational GM with ratings and testimonials from your players
– have a location for your game listings so you’re not always “looking for a group” within one small community and just watching the listing ending up in the LFG graveyard
– establish yourself as a reputable GM and advance yourself as a professional when we implement payments through the website
– help create a central location for game listings along with a resource center for improving your GM skills as well as showing off your talents
– try new games you might never have otherwise thought of, or been able to find a GM for!
This platform is in its beta stage so please bear with us as we continue to develop it. We look forward to creating a service that the RPG community can benefit from. Join us in creating something truly great that advances the RPG community into a new era of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Thanks for listening!

Payment, really? No reason to support the new phenomenon of pay-to-play games, nevermind the fact that this seems antithetical to Blades philosophy, which has much less of a player-GM divide than traditional games.
And just about language, GMs aren’t storytellers, or at least shouldn’t be.
Sorry to come across as so negative.
But this just seems to reinforce the extant notion that GMs are somehow special and not just another player, and that GMing is a thing only the Chosen Few can do.
GMing is a skillset, and there’s absolutely no reason GMs shouldn’t be paid if players are willing to do so. Yes, the GM role differs from game to game, but that’s beside the point.
I’m totally in favour of this.
That said, I agree that “storyteller” is probably the wrong word if you want to cover a broad range of games and playstyles.

Players who don’t feel the necessity to pay for games, won’t. I understand that not everyone will find this useful or think it’s a good idea. But there is a lot of work that goes into running a game and we want to give people an opportunity to earn an income doing something they love.
Playing with your friends won’t change. You likely won’t start charging your friends to play – but many times you’re playing with strangers, and at times there tend to be issues that sure from these games. We’re not trying to make a statement, take a stand, or cause a divide. We’re just hoping to give GMs opportunities. We say storytellers because this could include LARPs, events, and other things instead of just games played at a table.
I appreciate your feedback and hope that you at least give the platform time and see how it works for yourself before making a judgement. After all, it will include free games as well, not just paid games.
I view it just like any other service. If people are willing to pay for it, there is no reason they shouldn’t be given the chance and place to do so.
GMing is a skill. Not everyone can do it, and not everyone can do it well. It takes work, preparation, and practice. It is NOT the same as just showing up. If people want to monetize that, it’s no different than a stand-up comedian being paid. Or is everyone funny?
