In which the Hellspawn, Tycherosi prison orphans who operate out of a cave in Dunslough, accept their first job – stealing a piece of art in a social club.

A fine night in Doskvol with Janaki Parthasarathy, Dev Purkayastha and Laura Simpson.

  1. Great to see you’ve got a face to face game going. Hehehe, you know the job’s a success when you end it in your undergarments!

The pair of Tycherosi in my Blades game (The Cult of Vooris) are a Whisper who has tears of blood (and very watery eyes, must be allergic to the air of Duskwall!) and a Leech with a demonic tail that he usually fails to keep hidden in his trousers, he’s an excitable sort…

  2. Lovely AP as always Judd! Kid thieves are always interesting territory.

What I like about RPing blades is that you can slow down and enjoy the scenes you are digging into, but also have the ability to smashcut via the score / downtime / freeplay framework to speed dross along.

When players are stress free, the scenes are FULL of danger and excitement as the consequences I narrate are bolder and brash and more over the top than any other gaming I’ve done.

I’ve learned from watching John Harper play that escalating hard through consequences is AWESOME. That way, harm has just become a logical followthrough of those consequences. If someone has nearly used up all their stress and rolls a 4/5, I can’t help but push hard for my own GM agenda item(s) as a consequence – whether that’s a clock or a story element I want to introduce, or an entanglement that re-incorporates previously established badness.
