Prepping for my first-(and second-) ever sessions of Blades in the Dark.

Prepping for my first-(and second-) ever sessions of Blades in the Dark.

Prepping for my first-(and second-) ever sessions of Blades in the Dark. Being a GM doesn’t help relieving the anxiety either.

Anyways, set up some Cult claims over a map on Roll20 and hopefully good to go(and could reeeeeally use any sort of advice on GMing this aside from what was on the book):

  1. Well, I think John’s advice in the book is perfect. The best ever advice I had was to breathe, pausing is okay, take your time to respond. Other than that I look to Vincent’s advice in AW and Sundered Land: Be a fan of the player characters, trust yourself and your friends to say something good. All the best.

  2. Yeah the above, but also the only thing really wanted to flesh out outside of play was the NPCs.

There’s a lot of them in even the starting scenario, which work just fine the way it is.

  3. Not sure if your players are also new to the system, but I found it really helpful to go over the rolling system during the first rolls. It will take a couple sessions for people to remember, but just be patient and use the handout.

I also found that by having the players roll up their own NPC contacts’ looks and whatnot on the tables, they really wanted to interact with those characters more.

  4. If you are used to D&D style games, you might expect fights to be time consuming… but not in Blades!

A conflict is easily solved with a single die roll or two.

Don’t bother creating a story, it’s enough if NPCs have a motivation.

Maps don’t need details, they are mostly just for creating a general understanding.
