A NOCTURNE — progress update
Currently adding in some important structural support stuff to the upcoming new-and-improved playtest version 0.7.1 (Scores, Downtime, the Sample Cluster), but I also made a new craft type just to see how robust the current craft sheet format is, and it worked out pretty well.
This is the Cannibal Craft, all about salvage and sabotage, and a craft that proved pretty popular with my group in previous versions. It should give you guys an even better idea of what I’m doing with the claims map, crew upgrades, and so on.
Yes, your craft can take harm and accrue Damage and Scars. I know, I’m a complete monster.
This is really cool.
Watch out “it’s” / “its”
Andrea Parducci Yup, I’m gonna be going through the document a bunch looking for this stuff. Lots of copy editing to do 🙂
Looking forward to the next playtest version – any rough ETA on when we can expect to see it?
Matt Kay Hoping to get it out within the next week.
Can’t wait!
Calum Grace Awesome!
This screams (dark) farscape!
Matthijs Krijger Oh wow, I don’t know why I haven’t had Farscape in my list of inspirations this whole time, it’s a huge influence.
Also, since you were asking on the other post, current playtest files are here: thysane.itch.io – A NOCTURNE (play-test) by Calum Grace
However, I’d recommend holding off for a few days as the current version up there is quite outdated, and I hope to get this new version up there real soon.
Thx.. I just hope you make a ‘living’ ship, either because AI or organic, so you can actually ‘fight/negotiate’ with the ship [like farscape/Andromeda]
Matthijs Krijger This is definitely in the cards. Living ships are my jam.
Really looking forward to those updated testfiles. What source would you suggest for art and handouts? (I am a big fan of show and tell to my players).
Matthijs Krijger Not sure, but I think a lot about the art of Syd Mead, the set design of Alien and Blade Runner, and the space imagery of Interstellar or 2001: A Space Odyssey when writing for A NOCTURNE.
My aesthetics tumblr (basically an ongoing moodboard thing) is also a big source of inspirational imagery I use when I dip into sci-fi stuff: thysane.tumblr.com – thy sane
Oh, good idea. A tumblr with art that can be used for particular hack.
I notice I have a ‘default’ mind-set that makes me want to run Star-Wars games because there are so many graphics/art available that for everything I can pull up an image to show my players.
