Finally finished tweaking the Squint.

Finally finished tweaking the Squint.

Finally finished tweaking the Squint. Added in the missing playbook ability and fixed some of his other abilities to be a little more interesting/fitting with the Blades style.

I think my favorite addition has to be the changes made to Peer Review – it still functions largely as a written version of Like Looking Into A Mirror, but given that you’re probably less likely to end up using written sources than conversational ones, it now also adds an xp trigger (like the Hound’s Vengeful): “You sought to discover the truth where you found deceit”.

I’ve also moved the updated Sheet into its own file, though I’ve also left it in the main playbook (to save you a print). You can find it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5L_dVdEudoASktMX01SWjdxSWM

Feedback always welcome!

  1. Let me put on my nit-picking glasses,

well Ghost Scribe has a word missing in the part of “visible to the living only if you it”.

I feel like Influence from Beyond seems like something that you should be able to do already and a bit punishing. Maybe change it so you get some additional or guaranteed benefit from the supernatural influence. Or maybe something that allows you to skip designing process by outsourcing it to some devil.

Personal Electro-Barrier’s effects seem limited for something that costs an ability slot and 2 load. Unless it is a completely impenetrable shield, but even then, that’s still only briefly. While fictionally this all makes sense, I think something needs to be done to add it a little more omph.

I’m not sure what the the Fine Spectrology Research would be used for.

I don’t know on whose end the problem is but the page seems very blurry.

On the positive side of things, I like the character that Peer Review gives. And the danger it presents is also fun.

I also like how sense the Squint doesn’t have Attune, we can infer that spectrologist tools don’t need it and therefor you can mess with ghosts in mechanical and detached fashion. A very fun idea.

  2. Gorinich Serpant Thanks for noticing that. I’ve fixed it (on the sheet at least).

I see the Spectrology reasearch as something that could help with gather information rolls. In terms of the actual score, it’s a bit niche, but some kind of social score when dealing with spectrology academia would be a good place for this to help with Consort or Sway.

As the Electro-barrier goes, I see it as something of an “oh shit!” button, go full paladin and pop the bubble when in danger for a moment to get a plan, but perhaps the wording I’ve used is a bit prohibitive. I’ll give it thought and see what I can do.

I don’t think Devil’s Bargain are available for Tinkering/Rituals in the base game; and the attention doesn’t have to be specifically negative and ireful (at least, not immediately). It’s a very Piero Joplin-Outsider kinda concept, though I suppose that would lend your idea merit too.

BTS: In earlier versions the Squint did have Attune, but I was constantly struggling with what exactly their ability identity would be then (especially since I didn’t want to ignore the kind of precedent I saw in the main book when it came to starting ratings). Ultimately a special ability from the previous build (A Rational Explanation) helped cement in my mind the direction it was going for.
