On blow guns and zero load.

On blow guns and zero load.

On blow guns and zero load.

I am running a game with a leech and in another game I am a leech, and I mean I have to ask, why are blow guns zero load?

In preparing for my leech I googled blow guns, and I mean they are huge. See for details https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowgun

It’s not some pan flute sized thing, its a long pipe.

So I have to ask whats with the blow gun and 0 load? Oh and what is the view of ammo, can it be anything in the bandolier? Can you load it with spark(you know the drug in your bandolier) because spark is made with electroplasm, and use it on ghosts? What about fireoil, grenades, or smoke bombs?

Are there any limitations on ammo? Is it one per bandolier slot? That sounds overly restrictive, or is it unlimited? which sounds exploitable.

Also in terms of the economy of actions how does it work, is shooting a dart one action? Or do you need to fill the dart, then load the dart, then shoot?

Im hoping someone (or even John Harper himself) can provide insight here.

  1. Blowguns come in a wide variety of sizes. Those huge blowguns are for hunting game in dense foliage. There are also very small blowguns (you can find those by googling, too).

Since it’s 0 load, that means the leech must be carrying a very small one with short range (probably about 30 feet or so if you want to get technical).

If you want a long-range hunting blowgun, take it as a Large Weapon in your load.

(Since everyone in Duskwall generally wears thick clothing, I’d say blowguns at a far distance are pretty crap, though. Maybe make a fortune roll to see if the dart actually penetrates and does anything. There’s a reason why everyone isn’t running around using blowguns.)

  2. You can load darts with alchemicals from your bandolier, or any other alchemical you have access to. Loading a dose from a bandolier uses up that dose, yes. You’re just shooting it with the dart rather than throwing the vial or whatever.

I doubt you’ll ever need to track general dart ammo. Assume you have 6 or so?

  3. Nathan Roberts, I wouldn’t equate difficult to desperate. Meaning, it might be a really hard shot, but that doesn’t mean their is inherently increased danger. I think I’d start it as limited effect (normal Dusk attire giving potency against darts) and then if someone wanted to trade position for effect they could get closer, drink some crazy extra lung power alchemical before they blew the dart, fire multiple darts, or otherwise expose themselves to danger to get a better shot.

  4. True! In my minds eye I had expanded on my postulation so that something extremely untoward was going to happen if the scoundrels didn’t ace the blowgun shot to the one unamoured area of the target…
