When you take a playbook advancement and gain a special ability are you restricted to your playbooks options?

When you take a playbook advancement and gain a special ability are you restricted to your playbooks options? For example, can a Hound take a Spider ability… or is he restricted to Hound?

I haven’t been able to find an answer in the book… maybe I’m blind.

  1. Taking abilities from another playbook is what the Veteran advance is for, and you can take it up to three times (generally). It’s easier to see this in the play sheets pdf; I’m not sure where it’s spelled out in the actual book.

  2. I saw some references to Veteran advances both in the book and in the Bloodletter videos… but I haven’t found any specific text that tells you what they are / how they work. So I wasn’t sure if they are still a thing or what.

  3. Wow, looks like you’re right; they’re not explained in the book anywhere as near as I can tell. That’s pretty terrible!

But yeah, I see no indication that they’re no longer a thing, and you can pretty much grok how they work by using the playsheets.

  4. Yes, veteran advances still work the same (taking a special ability from another playbook), and confirmed with John in his Twitch stream that there is not any limit to only taking three. There being only 3 dots on the sheet was a graphic design choice only.
