I just wrote a rough draft of the weirdest ability for the Woo (A New Age Spiritualist). If you remember when “The Secret” was a thing, it’s basically that.

The Law of Attraction: Your action rolls don’t have a position, they have a VIBRATION! When you feel joy and bliss, it’s controlled. When you feel bored or hopeful, it’s risky. When you feel fearful or powerless, it’s desperate.

I haven’t seen any “rewrite the profiles of the positions” special abilities yet, but there’s maybe some VERY bizarre potential in that. Hopefully what happens with this particular special ability is what actually happens in New Age circles where people get extremely neurotic about whether the thoughts they are thinking are negative and will bring about negative manifestations.

HYPE.

  1. Player: I consort with the widows, attempting to comfort them. Also I do it joyfully. I can’t contain my glee!

GM: Um, creepy. Controlled thanks to your ability but limited effect. Also to anyone watching a success is going to look really weird.

  2. This seems like an interesting “make things different” kind of move rather than a “make you more effective” kind of move. From my limited understanding of Mortally Bankrupt this sound like it fits perfectly.

  3. I think, due to us being three dimensional entities, we’re always going to only have a limited understanding of Mortally Bankrupt. We cannot see the true beauty behind the madness.

  4. I love how Adam periodically goes all like “damnation! my game still isn’t weird enough! I must increase the number of new age and reality TV show mechanics proportionally to the amount of PURE HORROR”.

    Its truly inspirational.
